You might have heard of him sooner if he hadn't been fired from SNL after sites like Deadspin dug up old clips of using some words he shouldn't have. Of course, an apology wasn't enough, they wanted blood.

He was pretty much canceled as far as mainstream media was concerned, so he kept building his standup career and went the podcast route. Blew up there, now he's on SNL. I've listened to him a few times, and he doesn't strike me as hateful.
