Disney sees Rey as the cornerstone for the future of Star Wars

‘Star Wars’ Movies’ Race for Rey, and the Future of the Franchise on the Big Screen

The scavenger-turned-Jedi played by Daisy Ridley in the last three episode movies is key to the space opera's next turn.

Forget the Death Star, the most coveted weapon in the Star Wars movie arsenal is the character of Rey Skywalker.

Since the Nov. 7 reveal that Simon Kinberg had signed on to develop and write and produce a new Star Wars trilogy for Lucasfilm and Disney, debate has focused on whether or not it would be a continuation of the so-called nine-film Skywalker Saga, tying it to the legacy of Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and storylines first laid out by George Lucas in 1977. The reason for the debate is that the new, hoped-for trilogy would feature Rey in some form or fashion.

Rey, the scavenger-turned-Jedi played by Daisy Ridley in the last three episode movies, is key to the franchise’s next turn. That potentially puts Kinberg’s trilogy story development, as early in its conceptual stages as it may be, on a collision course with the Rey standalone movie that is actively in the works with director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

I needed the laugh. Thanks!

I mean they kind of set things up so that she is really the only one left.

Jar Jar is still around...

Disney’s infested with liberal idiots.

Doesn’t looks like that will change any time soon.

I know.

Eiger telling us it will a few months ago was absolute BS.

And Disney stock keeps dropping.

Chances are, that entire project will come to nothing, just like the other 14 movies/tv shows that Kathleen Kennedy proposed in the past 4-5 years that got shelved or torpedoed by Bob Iger.

The fact that KK is bringing in the guy who made some of the worst X-Men movies in the past 5 years, as well as an inexperienced foreign film activist who has never made a proper, big-budget movie in her life, says a lot about KK getting desperate for anyone willing to work on her failing Star Wars fanfiction projects. Chances are, these two poops will quit on her just like the other 20-30 writers/directors that got sick of her in the past 3 years.

Nah they seem to be all in with Rey. I don’t see them dropping this.

They can propose as many "Rey movies" as they want, but Bob Iger has the final say in whether a Disney Star Wars movie is going to be greenlit, and he's been putting the kaibosh on KK's money-wasters ever since "Rise of Palpatine" came out.

Disney are testing the waters and it doesn't look good.

They've tested the waters many times and igonred. Of note, testing the waters with the Han Solo movie where the whole planet proclaimed they did not want a Han Solo movie (yet) and Kathleen Kennedy ignored the fans to make it with great expense.

Now Disney are a bit more precocious when it comes to making big budget movies.

They've moved on to still ignoring fans, as well as insulting fans to make massive budget TV shows.

The Acolyte was the largest budget TV show barring Rings of Power and looks no better than a cheap Battlestar Galactica episode with writing worse than the bottom barrel Star Trek episodes.

Star Wars was the closest gap from sci-fi nerd to normies the entertainment industry has ever had.

A money printing machine. Disney managed to not only bridge that gap from the normies ($$$$) further, but also accomplished turning off it's in built fan base, so everybody turns their back on this IP and it no longer makes money.

Remarkable achievement.

GET THAT $$$

I would not mind a Rey centered trilogy as long as it was good and they didn't call it episodes 10-12 of Star Wars. Really they should not have included the numbers on the Disney Star Wars (non George Lucas) films.
