Every time the news comes on ... and she's gone!

This was going to be a post about my expectations which went - I expect to hear she has resigned/been sacked (can you sack a PM? - whatever the equivalent is).

And even as I typed - she announced her resignation!

reply

The return of Boris? 🤔

reply

This is being speculated on Sky News. I bet he's laughing his bollocks off at all this.

reply

No fucking way. He's proven himself to be an utter liar and devious and manipulative. GE NOW!!!

reply

It was the only way to get him back in, f*ck everything up beyond all reason, Boris swoops in and ‘saves the day’, Tories win next election by a landslide - all staged 🤪

reply

You must be a Yank, AndyKing1967. You don't seem to know that the Tories are in utter disarray and no-one in the UK wants them anymore, because of the hardship and misery they've caused MILLIONS just to line their own selfish pockets.

I personally would not only kick the Tories out at the next GE, but ban the party and to be honest, exterminate them all.

reply

I was hoping that my crazy faced emoji at the end would demonstrate that everything that I was saying was all tongue in cheek.

reply

It's never certain what people mean in written conversations like these, even with emojis. I didn't mean any harm for misunderstanding, but I just wish people, if they want to use emotions, go back to simple ASCII emoticons, as emojis vary so much and nothing is clearer than plain typewriter punctuation shown sideways as emotions, as was the case for decades.

reply

Should have picked Kemi.

I was two days off. Before the weekend, I was telling people she would stand down on Tuesday... so I'm annoyed.

reply

She's been PM for like a minute, I had to look up which PM had the shortest duration in the role and sure enough.

Of those with clear terms, the prime minister with the total shortest period in office was Liz Truss, whose sole term lasted between 44 and 51 days from 6 September 2022 until her resignation on the selection of a successor, within one week of 20 October 2022.

Oh dear.

reply

Previous record holder was George Canning, who lasted 119 days in 1827. He died in office though, so he had an excuse.

reply

Nicola Sturgeon will always be shorter.

reply

Someone on the radio just pointed out she was PM for 10 days less than it took her to win the Tory election process.

reply

I've seen people in business management roles within large financial institutions who give off a vibe that they aren't really meant to be there and that people will see
through them that they're a "fraud".

That's exactly what Truss was like. Even yesterday in her speech saying she was a fighter and wasn't going anywhere, you could see in her eyes she didn't believe a word that was coming out of her own mouth.

Don't know whether to laugh or actually feel a bit sorry for her...

reply

It's hard to feel sorry for her really. She worked very hard to get the top job - cheerfully became a born again brexiteer - claimed to be the reincarnation of maggie to the fossilised members of the Tory party - rebranded trickle down economics as trussonomics - defined anyone who disagreed with her as an enemy of the people and gave them a suitably dismissive title.
I'm sure she's having a horrible time but in a few months she'll be on the circuit earning serious money explaining how good it would have all been if it wasn't for those pesky bean-counters

reply

Tony Blair used to get £100k per evening for has "after dinner speaking"

Liz could probly pull a few beans in with just for her comedy short term stab at it .

reply

Tony Blair followed US into a war, that I think was why all the perks (more than usual anyway) came after he stepped down.

Liz hasn't been able to do that yet, so I doubt she will get as much. She wanted to, and very eagerly so (the money must have been very good if she succeeded), but obviously she failed.

reply

trying to think of examples of what she might get , a happy meal maybe , put me in mind of a current Radio 4 sitcom called "The Partys Over" , about an exceptionally rubbish short term PM

He got offered a speaking job on a cruise ship , but lost the audience to the other act in the main lounge :)
