What was he supposed to be in Midway?

I decided to give "Midway" a look, mostly because I've temporarily tun out of new movies to watch and I like war films. In the first few minutes I was beginning to be impressed, (well, not unimpressed at least, anyway), but then the "lead" character, Ed Skrein appeared and it all went South.

To put it simply, he appeared to me to be a gross caricature of a "war film" character, made up of equal parts of "coarse pretty boy" features and over-practised facial grimaces, underlined with the most atrocious fake American accent I've ever had the misfortune to hear in a movie.

Frankly, he ruined the movie as far as I was concerned. Not that it was a very good movie in the first place.

AGREED...I thought he was terrible in Midway...

I agree. His ridiculous attempt at an accent was distracting in this movie that had the potential to be better. I honestly don't know why this guy is so sought after in Hollywood. Apparently he was lauded for his portrayal of Daario, but I didn't see it. I actually thought the replacement for that role did a better job.

That whole movie is Ed siting in front of a green screen while the digital effects team went nucking futs. I think he did a pretty amazing job of trying to make that sort of thing interesting.

But yeah... it was like he thought he was making a Rocketeer movie. But to be fair, i'm not sure the director knew what kind of movie he was making either.

Yes, agreed, TM.
