sharepeople would already think "weirdo" or whatever before they even see him don the costume (see Ben Affleck as Batman). That may actually be the best answer I've ever read to this often asked (and perfectly valid) question.
This happened when Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker as well though, and he was Australian.
