Chloe Wang is ashamed of her heritage!

So sick of these self-hating female uncle toms in the Asian American community! OK some uncle toms like Jeffrey Ma but mostly queen sell out Lucy Liu, Jamie Chung, Julie Chen and other types (you know who you are!) Instead of fighting the institutionalized racist system they buckle and just totally sell out. Seriously Chloe Bennett?? Your real dad deceased, abandoned ya or a White daddy and Asian mum or hippy stoned parents making a statement with maternal surnames?? Nope, nope, nope, AND nope! Her Asian father is alive and well and probably rolling over in his grave at this. And no this is not the same as Charlie Sheen AKA Carlos Estevez or Natalie Portman(Hershlag) either. Not exactly buying the 'stage name' excuse from Natalie but she speaks very fondly of her Israeli-Jewish background frequently while Chloe Wang obviously does not. Another thing that sets this apart is the unspoken of embarrassing self-hate, must conform at all costs mentality that exists among the Asian American community that also must be taken into consideration. To which this helps matters none whatsoever and even scares me that in an interview it was almost condoned like riiight you made the smart decision there kid. Disgusting and shameful at best!

No she isn't. Hollywood is.

Sorry I'm a little confused. Are you whinging about the fact that she is using the name Bennett rather than Wang?

Wipe the rabid foam from your chin and calm down. This isn't self hate it is simply marketing. Wang is a slightly unfortunate name in the west so as an actor she goes by another. This doesn't mean that she hates her heritage. She's happily playing a half-Chinese girl in AoS.

Lighten up, Francis.

I think you're wrong.

The first thing you read in her IMDb bio is:

Chloe Wang was born to a Chinese father and American mother in Chicago, USA. She moved to Beijing to pursue a singing career. While she was there, she studied Mandarin, learned the demands of international pop stardom and released her debut single, "Uh Oh", in both English and Mandarin.

OK, first of all, if she were so 'ashamed' of her heritage, I'm pretty sure she would have swept that information under the rug. But no. It's available for everyone to see.

Second, it must be noted that she is American. Yes, she has Chinese heritage, but the fact that she took the time to learn Mandarin and embrace part of her heritage speaks volumes of the girl. I'm pretty sure most people under the same circumstances (half American, half Chinese, Asian side not so obvious) would have spent that time shopping in malls, playing X-Box or something like that.

Third, there is already a much more extensive topic about this, and I think the prevalent opinion is right: If Hollywood casting agents read 'Wang', they want that person to play an 'Asian role' and they also expect that person to look 'fully Asian'.

There's no place for truth on the internet!

There is already another actress using the name Chloe Wang. Sh may have changed it to avoid confusion. Many actors do this. For example, Michael Keaton's real name is Michael Douglas.

Actually, I believe there's a Screen Actors Guild requirement not to use the same trade name as another actor. Some actors have been forced to use a stage name because they had the same name as an existing SAG member.
