Just an awful actor...

And on top of it acts entitled.

reply

Yes, but 'boxes' must be ticked in Hollywood nowadays (all except the 'talent' box, that is?)

reply

Disagreed. He's clearly a diversity hire, but that doesn't make him an awful actor. He's not great, neither, just standard.

reply

True enough description. Being a shitty actor doesn't separate him much from his fellow actors these days. It's hard to think of too many younger actors who actually have talent. Instead we have soft emo pussies like Ansel Elgort and Miles Teller.

reply

It's our time: white male actors are just casted to play psychopaths and abusers, or emo pussies. Indeed you have both in TLJ, with Crybaby Emo Ren and Happy Nazi Hux. And that happens even when they're the main character: the guy in Valerian, who should be a badass, is portrayed as a f****ng pussy.

reply

He's clearly a diversity hire

So when a movie is basically nothing but white actors, even white actors playing foreign characters, do you ever say "clearly they got the job because they're white"?

reply

^^^^^^THIS!!!!!

I'm going to work on getting past the race and pointing out that actors tend to be invited to auditions based FIRST on qualifying for the physical requirements of the role, however many requirements there are.

The first requirement is usually gender, as characters tend to be written male and female. By kuku's logic, hiring an actress to portray a female character would be shot down by "she was just hired because she's female." Obvious this is a ridiculous criticism. She most likely got the role because she beat other women who auditioned for the role of a female character.

However, he just wants to focus on race, without even considering the audition process, and that's very telling.

reply

Of course. You can see that happen when Asian or African movies cast white actors just for the sake of being white, like Matt Damon in "The Great Wall".

It's far less common, though.

reply

So if a movie is nothing but white actors, they got the jobs because they're white. If a movie is mostly white actors and one black actor, that means the white actors got the jobs because they're white, and the black actor got the job for being black.

In a diverse cast, every actor got the job because of their race.

You see how this is an endless spiral where every actor in every movie is picked because of race and race only?

If you want real discrimination, most actors get acting jobs because they're attractive, easy to look at.

reply

So if a movie is nothing but white actors, they got the jobs because they're white.

Only when some specific race is obligatory requirement to play some archetypes. For example, all evil imperial nazis are white males (well, and Phasma). So being a white male is a requirement to play evil nazis psychopaths.

As a general rule, every evil psychopath, violent abuser or pathetic pussy must be played by a white actor. That's called "white privilege" ^^

he does ok with what he is given. but irl he is cocky and that is a turnoff. will smith attitude is strong with him.

Agreed, he's beyond horrific.

reply

Gosh i thought he did a fine job in the role
I really liked him

reply

Cake is a troll, though. He and his buddies are making socks and getting other trolls to come to these boards.

reply

Wow
Thats not cool

reply

You don't think he was good in Attack the Block? I really liked that one and he seems fine in it.

Yes he was probably not hired for Star Wars primarily for his acting talent..which is a serious issue with this forced shallow diversity some people seem to love. But I think part of the problem here is Finn as a character, I am not sure anyone could have made that character work, the humor is lame, the American accent unnecessary, and the character simply isn't believable as a former stormtrooper and he is highly irritating. Towards the end of TLJ I was really thinking they may do something good with him and Rose ruined it.

reply

I think Attack the Block was his best movie and performance, but it's not like it required a bunch of talent for that role. The standards of acting in a movie with teens like that is pretty low.

reply

Boyega is also a stage actor, and he was by far the best performer in Attack the Block. He was so good in that, he seemed out of place.

reply

Exactly. Stage acting is awful. It's why they don't belong in movies.

reply

He is the black Jai Courtney
