Should have been cast as "Jamie Fraser" - Outlander
Having read the whole series (including Lord John Grey) I cannot get my head around - or warm to - the casting of Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser.

shareHe's too English to play Jamie. I'm telling you, Sam Heughan is perfect. Everyone has their own opinions though. ;)
shareI don't think he would make a very good Jamie, but every Grantchester episode I watch makes me think he would've made the perfect Angel Clare in the recent Tess of the D'Urbervilles adaptation.
shareAgreed - I think he's much too English for Jamie but would make a wonderful Angel Clare.
shareI agree. Too English. Besides, he can't be in EVERYTHING. He's pretty busy as is. And his upcoming projects are arguably more prestigious than Outlander.
That's NOT a knock on Outlander.
I was thinking just the same thing today. Actually Sam and James are remarkable similar to each other. I expect James could play Scottish, just as Sam can and does play English!
shareI totally agree, original poster. He would have made a great Jamie!
shareDon't know if you've watched the series since this original post...but I think Heughan has done a very good job...especially as Season 1 progressed.
And I'm sorry, but Norton is just not tall enough. Anyone under 6'2" would have been a problem!
I think, however, that Norton would be an excellent option for the adult Lord John Grey?
I just can't. See him going from War and Peace to a Starz original program!!!
