Says he's uncomfortable talking about his body now

"I've found out over the last year and a half, since I did that picture, that I am very uncomfortable talking about my body," he told GQ for the November issue, "and it's become less and less and less comfortable."

I wonder if it's because such talk is more likely than with other actors to turn to obvious steroid use. Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth also abuse androgens, but they've always been viewed as studs whereas Nanjiani is a comic relief turned beefcake, so people are interested in how he made the transformation (chicken, brown rice, and broccoli).

He also reportedly says about the motive for releasing the picture that went viral:
"I wanted different types of opportunities. I wanted the industry to see me differently."

Of course. More than the others, I had always figured Nanjiani would eventually come clean about going on gear, if only because it's good material for stand-up.

He should be proud of his new physique. It is the product of a lot of self-discipline, hard work, and gear (steroids). He should buck the trend and just admit it. Many A-list actors seem to be doing it nowadays (e.g. Duane Johnson, Mark Wahlberg, Alan Ritchson, Ryan Reynolds, Arnold, Sly, Chris Hemsworth) but will never admit to anything more than TRT, when they are obviously on something more (e.g. Tren or Dbol). For most guys who aren't professional bodybuilders, the price of doing gear probably isn't worth it as there can be serious physical and psychological side effects. Gear may have contributed to Kumail's breakdown after Eternals flopped. Perhaps in Kumail's case, it w worth it, as he wouldn't have been cast in that big budget film Eternals (with the accompanying big salary.) I have never taken gear, but I would if it would earn me millions.
