Box office poison?

I do not understand something. Adam Driver has been in a lot of high profile films, and the primary star or co-star in many of these films, yet a lot have been flops.

He has been around a long time now and it seems like he isn't exactly that big of a star (thought he would be a big A-list leading man by now). He receives high praise from critics for every movie he does. Do casual audiences just not like him?

Like has he had a legitimate box office hit as the lead actor? I understand the Star Wars appeal but besides that, what do people mainly recognize him for? If 65 flops, is Hollywood going to stop casting him in big budget movies as the lead? We shall see?

I mainly recognize him for the HBO show called Girls. That was the first thing I saw him in and I thought he was great

reply

Yeah, I don't get the appeal of him. He reminds me of Keanu Reeves. Another guy that is not exactly a good actor but still gets cast in a lot of films. Although, I think Keanu's films have been more successful.

He went to Juilliard and has Star Wars money. He’s probably picking projects for how interesting they are to him and not for the money or fame.

How about box office overrated?

Who is it that thought this guy should be in movies?

He can't act, he has a weird looking face. Not conventionally good looking or bad looking, just weird.

I never got it with him from day 1.

I guess he's still around so, well, some people must think highly of him.

He's too ugly to be a leading male actor. Male actors have to be handsome to some extent, not male models per se but they can't be Adam Driver who looks like shit run over twice.

I'm guessing his appeal for movie execs is that he doesn't quite look white but not quite anything else. Hollywood is always desperate to find guys like him who can appeal to all demographics.

Who the fudge are you to determine who's ugly or handsome in such an absolute sense? Let's see a pic of you, Quasimodo. Then we'll determine how Adam compares.
