A harbinger of populism in the Republican party

A lot of her appeal in the Republican party was anti-elitist, even anti-intellectual rhetoric and sparring over cultural issues. Trump, of course, took her shtick to a whole new level. While I admire John McCain for many things, appointing her as his veep and giving her greater prominence in the party was a mistake.

reply

Lipstick on a pig!

That was her big moment.

The nominee for VP in 2008.

...The rest is crap.

She's divorced from Todd. There is no reality TV show anymore. She doesn't have a contract with FOXNEWS, CNN, MSNBC.

John McCain is dead.

...And so are her online TV subscriptions.

reply

Yeah, I would’t be surprised if she has many regrets about her personal and professional life. But her time is past. She is thankfully receding from the public’s consciousness.

reply

I was really looking forward to seeing her on stage in her Naughty Monkey shoes for at least 4 years. Alas, it was not to be.

reply

An ultimate superstar that flamed out. She couldn't grow $100 bills to get onto Hannity now.

reply

Definitely flamed out.

reply

So sad.

In 2020:

She doesn't have a talk show. She's not invited as guest.

Her husband divorced her.

She can't sell a book because nobody wants to buy it.

Her kids now become children of broken parents.

Happy Christmas Sarah Palin!

reply

She is such a fucking clown show.

In 2007ish I figured she would be the most absurd clown show I would see in politics. Lord was I wrong. She seems tame compared to what we have had for the last four years.

reply

"While I admire John McCain for many things, appointing her as his veep and giving her greater prominence in the party was a mistake. "

Was it? You just pointed out that Trump pretty much did the same thing – and he eventually won.

reply

Not a fan of Trump or Trumpism.

reply

Irrelevant to the conversation.

reply

It’s relevant to why I view McCain’s elevation of Palin as a mistake.

reply

No way you can compare Trump to Sara Palin. Two completely different political approaches.

reply

Disagree. Both utilized the strategy of sparring with Republican foes in public and and media to whip up the base and their appeal to their supporters was more personality /cultural-/identity-based than policy based.

reply

Same exact Trump's supporters are essentially the Tea Party. There was something there. It worked 8 years later. It's similar to how progressives are trying to take over the left. At this rate, our next Dem. President will be a communist.

reply

Nah, Tea Partiers were the fiscal conservative wing if the party. Trump doesn’t even pretend to be a fiscal conservative. He was all about deficit spending and didn’t care a fig about reforming entitlements. The overlap I see among the TP, Palin and Trump is mostly stylistic: the unabashed patriotism and passion to take it to their political opponents in public spaces.

reply

Yeah. Research to prove it too.

"Study Finds Trump Support Rooted in Tea Party Movement

Backlash against the Obama administration led a band of conservatives to form the tea party and help take control of the House in 2010. Though the faction has largely dissipated, its ideological allies are some of President Donald Trump’s strongest supporters, according to an analysis released Thursday. "

reply

The Tea Party movement, in its original incarnation, arose to oppose Obama’s stimulus plan and Obamacare - the latter in part because of its cost but also because it would inject government control even further into the health care industry. The grassroots movement was ephemeral. But before its demise, numerous groups formed to try to co-opt and channel the energy of the movement to fundraise and draw political support for specific candidates, and thats the only part that lived on. But it’s so-called astro-turf and was a spent force by the time of Obama’s second term.

Trump’s deficits are a matter of public record. The only part of the authentic TP’s political platform Trump embraced was getting rid of Obamacare. He campaigned on it and made an early attempt at repeal but failed, never to try again. Just hoped the Supreme Court would strike parts of it down.

reply

McCain deliberately chose a clown like her to help him fail. Both McCain's bid and Romney's bid were deliberately thrown by those two RINO bros to ensure Obama got elected and served two terms.

The two most Dem-friendly Repubs in modern history ran back to back against a politically inexperienced, young, African American candidate, someone who would have been deemed completely unelectable shortly before that time period... Coincidence? Hardly.

reply

I agree that Obama was unqualified but Trump had far less political experience than even Obama. Trump arguably had relevant leadership skills from his business and entertainment careers but, I think, it turned out that he was much better and more interested in campaigning than governing. Both men were able to surf the zeitgeist (desire for change) to victory. But Obama was able to hold on for a second term and Trump was not.

reply

Are you really trying to apply some sort of logical replay to the bullshit that idiot spewed? What he posted is the same fucking absurd tinfoil hat wearing bullshit that they are spewing about the current election.

reply

Yes I was just thinking that yesterday. She energized the tea party movement which lead to Trumpism and other movements.

reply

She was a female. It was always to appeal to moderate progressives, not anti elitism, although that's probably why that particular female was chosen. They would appear to be pandering if the nominated a minority, so the had to settle for an alternative sex.
