Seems Hollywood don't know what to do with her!

They seem to basically put her in awful blockbusters, I just watched the load of steampunk nonsense that is Hansel & Gretel, only because she's in it. It seems her better films are the British ones, although I hated Tamara Drewe she still held her performance up against Roger Allam and Tamsin Greig. And I really enjoyed Byzantium! Her American agent needs to have more confidence in her!

She stated in an interview that most of the scripts she gets from Hollywood want her to do nudity and basically be a 'piece of ass' and she turns them down because she has done her nude scene and wants to be known for her acting, not her body.

I'm starting to think Hollywood doesn't make anything BUT awful blockbusters.

I understand why she doesn't want to do nude scenes in crappy Hollywood movies, but is it really better to be the non-nude lead in crappy Hollywood movies? I'm sure Megan Fox has no nude scenes in "The Teenage Mutant Ninjas" reboot, but she's still in a frickin' "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot, and I now have ONE MORE reason not to watch the sorry piece of *beep*

Juno Temple or Noomi Rapace, on the other hand, do plenty of nude scenes and it works out fine. I think it has to do with acting talent and choosing good roles. Doing nude scenes--or refusing to do nude scenes--has nothing to do with it one way or another.

She's a very talented actress and wants to be known for those talents, not just her body. She has stated that several times in interviews. Just google it, I'd post links for you, but I'm on an iPod at the moment.

She doesn't want to be a complete sell-out like Rapace and Temple. In one interview she specifically stated she went in for an audition for the Alien prequel 'Prometheus' and they asked her if she would be willing to do nudity and she told them she had already done a nude scene in here career and wasn't going to do it again. They passed on her and gave that role to, you guessed it, Noomi Rapace. Sometimes with American directors they want to know how much an actress/actor is willing to commit to a role, and considering there was no nude scene in 'Prometheus' you can know they wanted to make sure she was willing.

Gemma isn't the only actress who does this. Rebecca Hall is the same way, she did her nude scenes in her career and wants to move on. Evangeline Lilly, well, she has it in her contract she won't ever do a nude scene (hell, she almost left the show 'Lost' after the first season cause they wanted to do a partial nude scene and she flat out refused and threatened to walk-out but they changed it for her).

And the part about is it better to do a nude scene than be in a crappy blockbuster? Gemma is, reportedly, done with big move blockbusters. She did Clash of the Titans, Prince of Persion, Hansel and Gretel to get her name out there. As can be seen from her recent filmography, she is sticking to the cheaper Indy movies...so in a way it is her choice not to be in a big blockbuster american movie. She's turned down three Marvel movie roles, so that's saying something.

The problem is the beauty standard in hollywood is too gay, which translates to masculine looking women with no bum or breasts, like the fashion models the gay fashion designers like so much.

Gemma with her body and looks would stand out alot and producers probably don't see the U.S public liking her much. Just look at Megan Fox the hollywood beauty ideal, and she's not curvaceous at all.

Yep, Gemma is just too sexy and too feminine looking for hollywood.

I am in total agreement with you. Whenever I think of the movie 'TAMARA DREWE', I instantly go to the scene where Gemma arrives at Tamsin Greig's outdoor party in those short-shorts, showing those great legs and curves galore. In that scene, she makes Daisy Duke look like a boy.

"I find your lack of faith, disturbing."

I really hope that isn't true about the Marvel movies, I mean she needs new advisers if it is. Someone to just say in her ear, yes they're comicbook movies, but if Scarlet and RDJ are gonna be in them, go figure that you should want this. 3 Marvel offers and she chooses Titans, H & G and Persia? For real? It's hard to believe someone could repeat such a terrible decision over and over? Irony is she's back our side of the pond doing some nothing play about women's rights whilst Hayley Atwell got her own international TV show that deals with much the same issue.

She turned down the Marvel movies AFTER she had been in Titans, H & G and Persia. As I stated, she said she is DONE with the big blockbuster movies and is staying closer to the indy and play scene. There is rumor she MAY do a H & G sequel, but that's just it, a rumoer, Arterton herself hasn't expressed any desire to do a sequel.

From what I've read, she turned down the Marvel roles because she didn't like the character they wanted her for. They her in 'Thor' for the role of Jane Foster and she thought the character was a 'wooden piece of ass' as she put it. She turned down the role of Black Widow in IM2 because she felt the role was too small (of course that ended up not being true) and the same could be said for the role of Maya Hansen in IM3. Maya was only in the movie for a short time and got KO'd at the end.

I assume if she ever DOES do a Marvel movie, I think she would want to be a top-tier character, not just minor character or the love interest. I could see her as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, or even as a villain.

What?! We're subjected to that overrated, dimwitted piece of *beep* Scarlett Johansson, because Gemma turned down Black Widow?! Oh Gemma, I love you, but you are an idiot if you did that... T_T What a travesty.
