I'm a girl and I've only seen Jai in Spartacus and Divergent (didn't pay much attention to him in this movie though). I thought he was really good as Varro in Spartacus and was quite surprised to see all the hate he's been getting from his big roles.
Maybe he's just less suited to gloomy, serious action characters. Based on behind the scenes videos from Spartacus, Jai is actually a really funny and cheerful guy and his character Varro, was similar at times. I guess that's why Varro came across as charming and likeable. Does Jai lose this when he is portraying a more serious role?
