Why can't Lupita Nyong'o have an Alicia Vikander or Margot Robbie career

Although there is an underlying racism in the industry for blacks and latinos, etc. I think you're missing the bigger picture. If Lupita wanted to do more films, she would be doing more films. You don't know what offers she has declined or being pitched for. It isn't about Hollywood making her a star, it's about whether she want's to be one. If she wanted to be a huge Hollywood star she would be doing press, photoshoots, etc.

The last I heard, her agents have said that they haven't had much luck in getting roles for Lupita. In other words, she's not being offered much.

To the answer the OP, the reason Alicia Vikander and Margot Robbie have more exposure is because they're white. It's that simple. Lupita is just as pretty as Alicia; she also has something that neither of them have...an Oscar. You'd think that she would have about the same exposure. It's not the case, and I have a good idea as to why that is.

The black actresses that you do see with decent exposure are usually overweight - if they're Lupita's coloring. The few women that you do see promoted as sex symbols are typically light (or racially ambiguous). The media, for the longest time, has implied that dark skinned black females are the least desirable, and the blonde fair-skinned white females are the most. Just because they threw Lupita a bone, doesn't mean they're going to go against this idea.

So? Women make up over 50% of the world population yet closer to 10% are about women or focus on women's issues. White men make up about 30% of the US population and far less than that in China yet they are the focus of 90% of main characters.

Besides if putting a white person in the lead = $$$ all the time then there would be no bombs with white characters in the lead, but there are, all the time. And if movies featuring black people only appealed to 12.5% of the population than movies like Straight Outta Compton, The Equalizer and Django Unchained wouldn't have made so much money, so please, give me a break with the 12.5% statistic.

If the studios really wanted to make money they'd produce movies that appealed to the groups most willing to spend money. Ironically, white men are the most likely to illegally obtain movies or just skip them all together since they have so many options to choose from, whereas women and minorities are routinely ignored.

How would the studio know if a time travel movie, a slasher/zombie movie, a haunted house movie, an alien/sci-fi movie, a Pixar movie etc with a black main character would be a failure if they never make any? Meanwhile the only data we have to go on are Will Smith/Denzel Washington films which were mostly successful?

straight outta compton-based on the upcoming of a prolific rap group which is still relevant decades later...not to mention, 2 of said group members are still moguls in the industry; 1 of the 2 even successfully crossed into the movie industry where he has been monetarily more successful...giving him "some" clout. nwa's movie had a 100% success rate and I'm sure got an immediate green light. in fact, id bet the only reason it wasn't made sooner, was they waited for baby cube to come of age.

django-umm, thank q tarentino. j fox was cool in it but tbh, he's almost in denzel and big willy's class....the jew producers would much rather have 1 of the 3 plowing through their white/mex/asian lead lady than say, colin farrell (as an irish fella, should i be offended, cuz I'm not). also, besides kerry washington(super light skinned, and HOT...not mutually exclusive) EVERY other supporrting player in the movie was white, like A-list whites.
