Is It Hyperbole To Think It's Possible That Oasis Could Usher In The New Post Woke Era?

I put it to you right here (no link off to some crappy blog site) right now in this groundbreaking piece, that it may be a possibility. Let's dive right into it...

Take a look at this:-
https://x.com/tonymc39/status/1828868503866097970

"Oasis are the most dangerous pop-cultural force in recent British history"

... Says the Guardian. Absolute embarrassing garbage of course, however that "guy" is not going to be alone in picking up how removed the Gallagher brothers are from today's less tolerant world.

Therefore, as the time draws nearer to the gigs, and excitement reaches fever pitch it seems inevitable that some online "journalists" threatened by their problematic past behaviour will dig some stuff up (it won't be a particularly hard dig) about Liam Gallagher's views on fighting, women, etc.

They'll then put that right to Liam and ask him if he's ashamed and going to apologise for his past behaviour. Liam is not going to do that though. He's going to tell whomever it is to -uck right off!

That person will then use the last option available to them - they will attempt to get the Gallagher's cancelled in some "horrified" piece like the one linked to above. But it won't work because people aren't going to care because they've spent an arm and a leg of tickets and are just too excited to head along for the Oasis sing-along to buy into some disenfranchised fool's desperate ramblings.

They won't be cancelled and new post woke era of tolerance will be ushered in!

Possibility or hyperbole? Who knows. Only old father (mother?) time himself will shed light on this fascinating question...

"They won't be cancelled and things ("woke") will carry on just the same after their cash-grab tour."

You can't fix a question... However I take it you're saying hyperbole and Oasis will not make a significant contribution to shifting the zeitgeist.

reply

Correct yes , they arnt here to change the world , just get some cash , Noels getting divorced apparently

re that "not hard dig for dirt" - that guy in the link has done it.
The guardian article in your link is quite an entertaining list of the various dick headery the pair have engaged in , I dont agree with the "most damaging pop cultrural force" bit though

reply

I don't think that guy's really too bothered about Oasis, more himself.

He already got the response he was hoping for:-

But this was what I was getting at in the OP. There'll be more of this and it will probably just be basically ignored.

'Oasis are the most damaging pop cultural force in recent British history', says Simon Price in The Guardian. The idea that a bunch of middle-aged millionaires back for a big pay day are in any way 'dangerous' is a little fanciful. I wouldn't have thought it was 'damaging' either though. Just a little bit dull.

There have been a number of positive articles about the reunion on their news site. And The Guardian being The Guardian, they've provided the counterblast. 'Simon, wanna write 500 words on why Oasis are rubbish?' 'Sure. Why not?'

reply

I can't think of a single culturally positive thing about Oasis reforming. I'm not a fan, of course.

The approaching middle age fans will be pleased. They get to relive that two year period when they actually had currency. Before the joke stopped being funny for everyone else besides all of us who never thought it was funny in the first place.

Yeah. Lots of people will have a good time singing along to the songs of their youth in a big stadium. Maybe they'll take their Swiftie kids along. 'This is what proper music sounds like.' I don't begrudge them that. I don't have any issues with Oasis or Oasis fans. I hope everyone has a blast. But I don't think many of these cash-ins have cultural significance. It's just a nostalgia thing.

Although I do sometimes worry nostalgia is our culture nowadays.

reply

Artistically speaking, it has as much significance as the B*Witched reunion.

But the other part of the equation could see larger examples of the scenes we were treated to about twenty years ago surrounding Madstock. When the nat front dicks rallied round Maddness and Morrisey's nominal Ingelunder appeal. Those nat front dicks now having their numbers swollen by the gammon element.

reply

Shit dull music that only dullards would get excited about.

So yeah. They appeal to the knuckle dragging crowd.

And because they did shit like playing butcher's apron guitars there's portion of twats who will want them to be their gammon heroes.

Who gives a shit if Liam tells people to "fuck off"? That's pretty much all he's ever been good for.

All Oasis has ever done is tell everybody how great they are and how shit everyone else is. No surprise that they and their cretinous super fans are super hypocrites that get butthurt when people highlight how mediocre they and they're dipshit fans are.
