I agree that Champagne Supernova is forever tarnished by that ridiculous line:-

It was laughable then and it's still laughable now. Surely they could have come up with something better...

Same band that gave us the immortal 'She has a sister / And god only knows how I missed her / In the palm of her hand is a blister' and ''The sink is full of fishes / She's got dirty dishes on the brain / And my dog's been itching / Itching in the kitchen once again.
And I'm sure there are several other classics from Noel Gallagher's first-thought-best-thought, rhyming dictionary approach to lyrics.
So 'surely they could have come up with something better'? Probably not, actually.
In fairness to him, I remember seeing him (or it may have been Liam) interviewed very early on -- possibly promoting the Shakermaker single -- on BBC2's late night review show and he made it very clear he really didn't think lyrics were that important. He had a great line, which was 'There are a lot of bands around with something to say. We want to give people something to sing.'
And, um, I think that is a neat summation of Oasis's entire career actually. Big, anthemic, singalong songs. Mostly meaningless though. He's not a great lyricist, that Noel bloke. share
That is indeed a good line. And you're right about those other lyrics as well!
Not sure if they just stand out as more absurd with Champagne Supernova as it's slower paced and the proceeding line seems more poetically profound... Anyway, I was thinking about it after typing that last post and I think:-
Slowly walkin' down the hall
Wondering if you'll ever call
Would have been the winner!
