The show is named The secret diary of a call girl". That alone should warn you of the type of story line you are in for. Billy Piper was an established actor at this point of her career, so she certainly didn't do it out of desperation . There are also a number of other established actors that appear in guest roles, and story arcs. It is completely understandable that you do not enjoy this style of story telling, but one should not assume a role like this is a desperate grab by a desperate actor.
