I'm sure it was her, but it sounded suspiciously artificial [auto-tuned]. That entire scene annoyed me; an opportunity for yet another endearing quality in this already-great show was wasted by a cheap selection out of the writers' bag of tricks.
Here's my beef with that...
The obvious next step in the plot was this newfound boyfriend bringing Kate out of her shell. It could have been done by any number of selfless gestures, a wonderful and unique surprise that would win him a place in our hearts. Instead, we get the regular "Wow, you can sing: I'm going to affectionately trick you into performing for an audience!" This plot device has been done to death. It simply has no "Wow, this guy's a keeper" effect anymore... as if it ever did.
