In regards to the images of others making the same gesture, I'd like to see video of them. We have the video of Elon doing whatever it is he's doing. I'm not making a judgement here, but without context, you can clip images from videos of people waving, or even gesturing people to quiet down, and it will look that way. Context is everything. Those images have no context.

Alright, along those lines, take the whole thing in context then. Look at everything Musk said and did leading up to that gesture. Does it sound like a Hitler speech or Nazi propaganda? Is there any antisemitic rhetoric? Are any ethnic groups dismissed as Untermenschen? Does he extol one race as being superior to all others? Is there talk of acquiring "Lebensraum" anywhere? Does he express contempt for democracy of admiration of Führerprinzip?

Yeah, the answer to all these questions is NO. This is a smear. It's despicable. It's cheap. It's insulting to the actual survivors of WWII and the Holocaust. People who push this nonsense ought to be ashamed of themselves. But they aren't, because they have no sense of shame.

This has been discussed quite a bit on the politics board. I posted this to help explain to people there the connection to gaming culture this situation likely has, since not many people on this site seem prithee to it.

Elon making that gesture was trolling in the same alt right fashion as his kekius maximus username also containing an image of Pepe the Frog (please look up both if you don't know what I'm referring to; it's the stoned frog looking meme). Pepe and Nazi salutes are both symbols of the new right/alt right's proclivity for trolling the Leftists that they despise. This reactionary counterculture goes hand in hand with gaming, that Elon is obviously immersed in, and is coming to be a significant number, if not the norm even, of the upcoming generation of right leaning youths, again with the gamers in particular, which is basically any teenager in the US. Trust me, nothing pisses these kids off more than being banned for calling a shitty player that sounds like a (explicative) a (explicative) in game, or calling (explicative) (explicative) and so on. They've experienced cancel culture and despise it, and Elon is highly sympathetic to this group.

So anyway, Elon didn't do that to praise Hitler; he did it to troll all of the (explicative) that would be offended by it for shock value, the lulz, and likely the attention."

Obviously they don't know what he intended as people on different areas of the political sphere are taking his gesture in different ways.

I have not passed judgement on it, because I'm beyond caring about American Political theatre. I do tend to think that he knows that his gesture would be interpreted in different ways, and it certainly is causing discussion, so I think in that he is getting what he wanted.
