Elon Musk attacks Cardi B “puppet that can't even talk without being fed words.” Cardi responds
Cardi B is pushing back against harsh criticism from the world's richest man.
The hip hop artist, 32, who gave a stirring speech for Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday night in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in spite of problems with the teleprompter, was criticized by Elon Musk, 53, a prominent supporter of former President Donald Trump.
'Another puppet who can’t even talk without being fed the words. The Kamala campaign has no authenticity or true empathy,' wrote the Tesla owner, who supports the Trump plan to deport millions of immigrants from the US, on his X platform.
The Grammy winner, whose legal name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar fired back with a strong reply to the South African born billionaire.
'I’m not a puppet Elon,' she tweeted.
'I’m a daughter of two immigrant parents that had to work their ass off to provide for me!' she exclaimed.
The artist who grew up in the Washington Heights area of New York City wrote, 'I’m a product of welfare, I’m a product of section 8 (a federal program that assists low-income families, the disabled and elderly find affordable housing in the private sector,) I’m a product of poverty and I’m a product of what happens when the system is set up against you,' she stated.
The BET Awards winner then criticized Musk for being out of touch saying, 'But you don’t know nothing about that. You don’t know not one thing about the American struggle….' adding, 'PS fix my algorithm.'
Of her experience on the political stage, Cardi wrote on Instagram on Saturday that it 'was a moment I feel like I’ve been waiting for my whole life.'
'If you know me you know I’m the biggest history nerd and I’ve been talking about politics on all my platforms for a long long time so this was a dream come true.'
She shared photos of herself on stage and with the candidate writing, 'I’m so glad that I got to meet and learn so much from VP Kamala Harris,' encouraging her fans to cast a vote for the Vice President.
The Bodak Yellow artist, who was seen reading her speech of a phone which had been hastily handed to her, also told them, 'AND YES!.. I wrote my speech down because I had to make sure I said everything I wanted to say honey!! I’m sooo proud of myself you don’t even know.'
During her 10 minute oration, the hitmaker spoke about her experience as a young woman who has had to overcome the odds, and spoke about her support for women to decide their own futures.
'People like Donald Trump don’t believe women deserve rights. When those rights are threatened, he disappears,' she claimed.
'If his definition of protection means restricting our choices and ensuring our daughters have fewer rights than our mothers, then I don’t want it!' she told the packed audience at the Wisconsin State Fair Park Exposition Center.
'Hustling women out of their rights is disgraceful.' she continued. ' Hustling Americans out of their hard-earned money by selling Trump watches, Trump sneakers, Trump Bibles… do we really trust this man with our economy? A man who only cares about getting rich and cutting taxes for his billionaire friends. I don’t even get a tax cut.'
For those who thought she may have profited by the appearance, the Rodeo singer set the record straight revealing on social media, 'No I aint get payed (sic) a dollar ..I actually came out of pocket wit glam and travel.'
Several fans responded to her post, telling her they would be casting their ballots for Trump, but others were supportive of Cardi's position.
'The women in hip hop using their voices,' wrote one fan.
'You was made for politics and I knew you was going to give a great speech,' claimed a follower.
'Always on the right side of history!' declared another.
