Long before he became one of Donald Trump’s biggest donors and campaign surrogates, South African-born Elon Musk worked illegally in the United States as he launched his entrepreneurial career after ditching a graduate studies program in California, according to former business associates, court records and company documents obtained by The Washington Post.

Washington Post was saying no longer endorsing any candidate just few days ago: https://www.washingtonpost.com/style/media/2024/10/25/washington-post-endorsement-president/

But attacking Musk's immigration record is not that different from attacking republicans at this moment.

Even we know mainstream media can be quite dishonest, but isn't this too on the nose? I mean the ink of the last article hasn't even dried yet, so to speak.

He entered the country legally and started a business, then more businesses?

reply

On student visa.

He applied to Stanford graduate school, and used that to apply for a student visa. But he did not attend the school (dropped out after 2 days), instead he started a business, so he was working illegally from 1995 till around 1999 when his business was sold, for $307 million.

I think once wall street was involved, they ensured that would no longer be an issue. Considering he became an US citizen in 2002, I think they got him a green card right after the contract was signed (According to the article the condition on the contract for selling his business was for Musk to obtain a work visa or equivalent within 45 days.).
