As a writer, not just as a beautiful woman


So much of what made Another Earth great was that it was driven by expression and body language, with very little reliance on dialogue or overly-pedantic explanation. Silence and setting and mood can be so much more effective (see Tree of Life as another example) and it can be difficult for a writer to trust the camera and the audience to get what's happening without tedious narration. I look forward to seeing another of her movies.

That said, I have to admit that, even though she isn't the kind of woman I'm normally attracted to, her portrayal of Rhoda was so intense and engrossing that I walked out of the theater convinced that she is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. Maybe I would think differently if I saw her in another role.
