As a writer, not just as a beautiful woman

So much of what made Another Earth great was that it was driven by expression and body language, with very little reliance on dialogue or overly-pedantic explanation. Silence and setting and mood can be so much more effective (see Tree of Life as another example) and it can be difficult for a writer to trust the camera and the audience to get what's happening without tedious narration. I look forward to seeing another of her movies.

That said, I have to admit that, even though she isn't the kind of woman I'm normally attracted to, her portrayal of Rhoda was so intense and engrossing that I walked out of the theater convinced that she is one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. Maybe I would think differently if I saw her in another role.

Honestly, I find her features very boyish. Almost transgender-ish. Maybe she just needs a better stylist, but I like my women more feminine looking. I know she has long hair, but there just isn't a lot of feminine intensity in her photos.

I just kept thinking as I watched Another Earth how film schools must really give higher grades for glacial pacing. It's always the short films & 1st time features that seem to take 90 minutes to tell a story that would have been more compelling in 30 minutes. Another Earth was a really interesting concept. With the right pacing they could have explored a lot more of the questions it raised.

An excellent point that careful consideration of when and how to use dialogue, choice of setting/mood combined with good acting and direction are so important.

It will be interesting to see what choices Brit makes in selecting roles and who she chooses to work with. I think she made good choices with films like The Company You Keep, certainly a film I look forward to seeing, and Arbitrage also looks interesting.

But the fact she continues to write and work with her good friends Batmanglij and Cahill seems like a very smart move. Film making is difficult. You ideally start with a story worth telling. But even with good material it takes perseverance and is a lot of hard work. Why not make it more enjoyable while at the same time working with people you can trust to help you make the right choices.

Looks like we have a lot to look forward to from Brit and hopefully also from her collaborations with her talented friends.

I'm also looking forward to The Company You Keep, but there are so many famous names in the cast I wonder how big a part she plays. Strangely, neither Venice nor TIFF has her name in the main cast.

Then again, one of the 5 stills at the TIFF site is definitely Brit's:

Brit may not have a large part as you point out but it is another chance to work with some very talented actors and director Robert Redford so it should be a valuable experience and I'm sure they were very happy to have her in the cast.

I think she has a solid part after all; otherwise her still wouldn't have come out this early. Also at least one article from the newsdesk cites her as a star.
