Much better than anything Van Halen ever did

Which sucks because Eddie was such an excellent guitarist. It's a pity that he never joined forces with an actual good lead singer.

That track is tiring to listen to. If I never hear it again I'll be happy. Sorry to be harsh but I am a harsh critic when it comes to music. This track lacks the melodic structure of much of VH's output.

reply

And it also lacks the downright suckiness of Roth or Hagar.

Different discussion, but I do like Wolfie's vocals.

reply

No. It's a good tune, but nowhere near what you claim.

reply

I only claimed it was better than any Van Halen song, so the bar is not very high on that.

reply

nah

reply

To me it is, and that's all that matters. This song is for the rest of the people that dislike Van Halen. If you're a fan of them, then nothing I say will change your opinion, and vice versa.

reply

It's not either/or. You don't have to dislike Van Halen to like this song. You only have to disagree with the idea that this song is "much better than anything Van Halen ever did". And for the record, I'm much more a EVH fan than a Van Halen fan. I think their lyrics suck, which keeps them far away from being mentioned in the same breath with all time rock bands -- but EVH as musical director was a huge differentiator that this song doesn't have. When you first heard EVH, you didn't say "I've heard this kinda thing before", but that's what I say when I hear this song. Van Halen had a pioneer driving the musical bus, but Mammoth doesn't. As for vocals, it's usually a weak point in rock bands that just comes down to whether the voice agrees with you or not.

Roth was very fitting and Sammy is an excellent singer.

reply

Roth reminded me of a crappy, more clownish Weird Al, and Hagar was as bland of a rocker as anything. But my tastes in music are different than yours, so we will enjoy our own music just as much each other.

reply

I'm sure we have some commonality.

reply

On the positive side, if the lyrical content of Van Halen songs wasn't so crappy and uninteresting to me, they could have made some decent tunes with Hagar. I did like one song of theirs Don't Tell Me.
