Struck gold.
Its weird to think that she will never have to work again the rest of her life.
shareLots of people never work Bubba. Life is infaire
shareThats true, but marrying a Prince would be like inheriting 50 billion dollars. Her kids won't have to work and their kids and so forth.
shareIt's not about having to work, it's about wanting to work. One should work to better oneself. The only difference when money is not an object (and btw, she was a millionaire prior to this in her own right anyway), is that you are in a position to choose projects you are truly passionate about.
true, but this is different...
shareThe royals work. Remember they represent a nation. They attend things like celebrations, supporting charities, entertaining people like politicians, foreign dignitaries, etc. play host to boring parties and other social activities, the Queen meets with the prime minister regularly, etc. The queens husband, Prince Philip just retired from royal duties at the age of 96.
They have a schedule they must keep for all their activities. No freedom. No fun unless you think listening to speeches is a joy. No privacy. No thanks.
She's not going to like that part of the job.
But I doubt she'll stick with it for long, with doing things the royals' way, that is. No American could stand it for long.
Even British commoners have had problems with the royal life. Maybe changes were made after the fiasco of Diana and Fergies marriages. William's marriage tends to be going strong so hopefully Harry and Meghan will be given some leeway that helps make it easier.
shareI've heard that the Queen is fine with Kate spending most of her time home with the kids, she herself had to spend a lot of time away from her children when they were young... and look how they turned out.
It would be nice if they've realized that they've got to support William's marriage and family life, and not drive the spouse and children crazy with pointless demands and restrictions.
Of course Meg's going to have a lot more trouble than Kate with royal life, but what's the point of putting a lot of effort into teaching her how to be a proper princess. She won't be in it for the long haul.
The royals have to work for their perks. I read that Kate is on maternity leave. I didn't know they had that.
Diana was a very hands-on mother and William appears to want the same experience for his children. I notice that he accompanies George around a lot and is holding his hand.
Why do you believe Meghan will have more trouble than Kate?
I hope you're wrong about Harry's marriage. So far, I like the support she and her mother appear to be receiving from the family. Nothing could be worst than her father's nutty relations.
In short, because Meg is an American. Must go.
shareIsn't the royal family roots really German? Prince Phillip is Greek and Danish? The irony is Meghan's father is a WASP with origins from England which may make her more British than the royal family.
shareYeah, but she grew up American, so curtseying to royals who outrank her won't come naturally, neither will the rest of the royal protocol she'll be expected to follow in public and in private. She also won't really believe that living a cottage on the grounds if a palace is cooler than living in a mansion, that hats arent optional, that she can't tell her in-laws to stuff it, etc.
There's a reason that royal wives all come from ariaricracy or the English upper class, they're acclimated to that sort of bullshit.
Princess Diana was an aristocrat and the marriage was a disaster.
I believe the royal family changed for the better since Diana and Sarah. They appear to be more supportive and give more leeway. Harry and Meg will also have more freedom than William and Kate since he's farther from the throne.
I was impressed with how Charles made sure that Meghan's mom felt welcome. I just read the Gospel Choir was his suggestion, too.
I thought you were going to write it would be difficult for her because she's an actress and they need more freedom. Meghan seems to like the spotlight, knows how to handle the press, likes charities, and I read was very flexible. Her personality and Diana's good upbringing of her sons gives them better odds.
Isn't that just actors in a nutshell, though? Angelina Jolie, Emma Watson, George Clooney to name only some, participate in activism, attend speeches at universities, make public appearances, protesting, speaking on foreign affairs etc.
I'd say being a Royal isn't too much of a far cry from being an actor in Hollywood.
Not at all. The job of most actors is to act and they have a lot of freedom. Activism is what they do if they want.
Meghan will not be allowed to be an activist since royals cannot be political. She can support certain approved charities. Unlike an actor, her behavior is very restricted including how she dresses, where she can go, how she raises her children, her "leisure activities" and it's for life. Remember, Harry had to get permission to marry her from his grandmother who had denied her own sister's marriage to the love of her life decades earlier.
People believe it's the Queen who makes the rules when it's not. There is an institution they live under and the Queen is as much a prisoner as all the other royals.
Diana was very political, I wouldn't be surprised with all the changes to the Royal family in recent years, if Meghan and Harry are the ones to break the mold and do their own thing, in fact they already have with Meghan being mixed race. They certainly have more freedom than William & Kate.
shareDiana broke many royal traditions. That takes a tremendous amount of strength to fight an institution single-handedly like she did. That's the reason why so many people admired her.
Harry and Meghan's wedding itself broke new ground. She does have an activist background so it should be interesting to see how far she takes it as a royal. She also knows how both black Britons and Americans are watching her as a role model.
I think the press is going to follow her and Harry more than William and Kate.
they do work!
shareThey actually do. They get paid a shit-ton of money for doing all these boring appearances and stifling protocol and putting up with endless criticism from the rags and the internet, but that's still a better deal than being paid diddly for a boring and stifling regular job like most people.
Better pay, shorter hours.
Look like even no work turned out to be too much work.
shareBased on her behavior now, what we're looking at appears to be a gold-digger who discovered her "jackpot" was actually a hollow victory. I mean, she marries into the richest royal family in the world, and then discovers several drawbacks to it:
1.) He's not as rich as the rest of his family, so she can't live as large as she wants.
2.) He's not on the road to becoming king, so that's a blow to her ego.
3.) She has a "My way or the highway" attitude, and does not respect the job she signed into at all. She apparently didn't realize that when you marry into the British Royal Family, you have to follow the rules, and are subject to the whims of the Queen. No amount of bratty "I'm the entitled American and you're all racists" behavior is gonna change that.
So now she's running off to America to score sweet, money-making deals with the littlest effort, and chances are, once she gets rich enough with her own money, she'll split with Harry and go her own way.
now they are running out of money and are trying to suck up to the Queen. pretty pathetic...
