I just watched Star Trek '79 for the first time

and I think that Chris nailed the pivoal role of Captain Kirk!
It's just that I can relate to Pine better. I liked Chris' spontanous reactions, Kirk's emotions were instant and authentic in the remake than in the original (I know I'd probably get trashed by Trekkies for saying this... but I had to go ahead and say it...sorry ;) Shatner's Kirk was iconic once but I just can't relate to him.

I have to say that I'm a huge William Shatner fan. I watched all the Star Trek shows when I was little. William Shatner IS Captain Kirk. Have you seen the original series ??? The first Star Trek motion movie was pretty lousy. Bad writing and bad direction. The Wrath of Khan was a million times better and had it all together with acting, writing, direction, and alike the original series.

When I heard Chris Pine was to play Captain Kirk it was a bit of a shock. I knew who he was but I was like, "No way ! Nobody can fill the shoes of Shatner !" But I'll tell you right now when I saw Chris in his first portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk I was absolutely happy. Chris Pine captured the essence of Kirk/Shatner and I was thrilled.

It's been at the back of my mind to binge watch the series at one go for several days now, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
I've seen almost 3/4th of Wrath of Khan and thought Burgerking Custardbath had done a better job at portraying Khan. As for Chris, he is ever charismatic and fun to look at. Which is more than can be said for Shatner.

I think Star Trek original series has aged badly, characters are often obtuse and expressionless which makes it ever harder to watch with its slow pacing. I dont believe for a moment when Trekkies claim that Shatner's series was the beast adaptation ever. By no means does the original movie series hold up to the modern incarnations of Star Trek.
