Olivia Colman On Pay Disparity In Hollywood: “If I Was Oliver Colman, I’d Be Earning A F*** Of A Lot More Than I Am”

Olivia Colman is opening up about the pay disparity in Hollywood and says that she would make way more money if she were a man.

The Oscar winner was a guest on CNN’s The Amanpour Hour, where she talked to host Christiane Amanpour about the inequalities in pay she experienced in the film and TV industry.

“Don’t get me started on the pay disparity, but male actors get paid more because they used to say they drew in the audiences,” the Oscar-winner star said. “And actually, that hasn’t been true for decades but they still like to use that as a reason to not pay women as much as their male counterparts.”

When Amanpour asked if she had pay disparity despite her multiple accolades in the industry starring in films like The Favorite and Accused, as well as television shows like The Crown, Broadchurch and Hearstopper.

“I’m very aware that if I was Oliver Colman, I’d be earning a f*** of a lot more than I am,” she said. “I know of one pay disparity, which is a 12,000% difference.”

The more famous and rich they are - the more entitled and out of touch they are.

This actress always has a job unlike many other Has decent money. And still it's not enough and she whines how she is ENTITLED to have more.

And keep in mind - she is not a lead actress. She is always supporting. You will not find a movie that she will Lead solely on her name and that movie would make bank. Yet in her mind she entitled to millions. Simply because Hollywood press hypes her.

Internet says her net worth is 12 millions. 2 years ago she sold her London home for a £2.3 million. She bought it in 2011 for £875,000. Which means she had those money 10 years ago before her Hollywood career. She ain't poor. She moved to new house for £1.3 million.

She is so incredibly lucky that Hollywood pushes her and keeps hiring as supporting in so many projects. She is woman of 50 years old. But still it's not enough. I blame Oscars and Hollywood press. You know when press starts pushing actors by constantly writing about them. And so those actors start thinking they are so famous now that their face is on internet pages. And they start asking themselves where are those millions they are entitled now? Not understanding that you have to bring 100 millions in the box-office with your popularity before being offered such money.

They confuse press-pushing with real fame. And then there are Awards. When those idiots made some low budget crap no one watches. Then critics start giving them awards for it. And they think that it's like some "ticket to wellness". Which it isn't. So many of them think that after receiving Oscar they can now demand millions for their next project. Then being surprised no one calls and offers it.

She's also quite ugly and has a speech impediment. She's very lucky to have had the success she has in such a fickle and shallow industry. You'd think she'd be more grateful.

Also, she's plain wrong - male stars are generally much bigger box office draws than female ones. There's no female equivalent of Cruise, Jackman, Reeves, DiCaprio, Hanks, Pitt, Gibson, Stallone, etc. Perhaps the closest female actors get is Scarlet Johanssen or Margot Robbie. Coleman might like to note that all of the above, male or female, are much more attractive than her.

That's correct. Audiences prefer to watch male leading actors, they generate more money for movie studios, hence they get paid more money than female actresses.

For example, Top Gun Maverick made billions because it was fronted by Tom Cruise, who's a brand name by this point. If that movie had Olivia Colman as its leading star, it would've grossed about 50 bucks.

Not to mention a considerable overbite. A very unattractive woman.

Okay, show me a male actor *with the same resumé and "star power"* who gets paid more than her. I'll wait...

I say this as one who ranks Peep Show and The Office as top-tier Brit-coms and loves Yorgos Lanthimos; I even liked The Night Manger and Locke, but ask a random person on the streets of London, and maybe one out of ten will have heard of her, forget about the rest of the world. When I typed in "Olivia" in the IMDb cast/crew search field, she was the *seventh* Olivia to auto-complete. Get over yourself. I'm glad Mark jilted you. :D

As a man who works my ass to the bone to make in a year what she probably makes in a week, my heart truly bleeds for her.

How did that work out for Ellen/Elliot Page?

reply

LOL. Great example. Elliot is not doing good aint he? While Ellen Page was legit star, making money.
