are you a fan??

A group I never got. I tried

reply

Mildly. Aqualung is a great album but that's about it.

reply

No, sir. That's not about it.

reply

In terms of whole albums, that's about it for me.

reply

Same here. When I discovered Aqualung I wore that album out, but I didn’t get into much of their other stuff. Anderson is a great showman and there is some really great concert footage on YouTube. I actually prefer some of their live versions over the studio recordings.

reply

Aqualung is the only full album of theirs I have on my iPod. I have maybe 8 other individual songs. And I heard quite a few of their albums too.

reply

I get it, but I'd say the next two were solid except you have to have the patience for album-length songs. After that there are a lot of tunes throughout the years.

In fact, just a few days ago I was appreciating a video of these kids playing the entire "Thick as a Brick" album almost perfectly. Of course they were music school nerds...

reply

Wow, they really did it justice. I wonder if it was a class project or if they were classmates who just really loved the album.

reply

Yeah, I wondered that, too. They were fantastic.

reply

Your loss.

reply

yes

reply

I like what I’ve heard.

reply

No, not because of the band Jethro Tull but spending an entire term of History studying the agriculturalist Jethro Tull put me off ever getting into the band! Damn History teachers! 😖

reply

Fortunately, I didn't have the same reaction to Iron Maiden.

reply

Iron Maiden and other forms of medieval torture is interesting, crop rotation in the 18th century is not.

reply

Oh God! I’m getting flashbacks of diagrams from school, where one of the boxes represented the ‘Fallow’ year 🧐

reply

E

reply

the farmers love this band

reply

JT really isn't a "singles" band. They are more of an "album" band. I like to listen to their entire albums in a sitting. I think this is the best way to fully appreciate Jethro Till.

reply

similar to the grateful dead.

reply

Yes, exactly :)

reply

Oh, ugh, comparing Jethro Tull to the Grateful Dead. There are so many differences between those two bands. Maybe comparing JT with another Progressive Rock band would make more sense.

reply

I got into them because of songs like Hymn 43, Teacher, Thick as a Brick, and Locomotive Breath. Had to buy several cassettes to get the songs I wanted. Became a fan of the rest. Opened my eyes to killer songs like Skating Away on the Thin Ice of a New Day, Minstrel in the Gallery, Bungle in the Jungle, and Witch's Promise. And cool shit like A Christmas Song.

The rock edge they have lured me in. The unique song compositions transformed me into a Tull fan. I can't stand The Grateful Dead. I absolutely love Jethro Tull. ... until about Broadsword and the Beast. Gimme the old stuff or nothing.

reply

My favorite group since 1971.
