Why did she and Michael C. Hall break up?

I remember being quite surprised when I heard that they'd been dating secretly for 18 months (evidently, he's capable of keeping secrets OFF screen as well) before marrying. But then she filed for divorce some 18 months later! What the hell happened?

From what I’ve heard, he contracted cancer after they got married (no jokes), and she stood by and supported him throughout his cancer treatments, then when he got better, he cheated on her.

Assuming the hearsay is true, that was a huge douche-move by Michael; if not, then the poor guy got sick then got railed on.

You don't "contract" cancer. That means he caught it from someone else.

Granted it is frequently used in terms of contagious diseases (probably because people pass diseases around so much), but it doesn’t have to be contagious, you could contract cancer from asbestos for example. Some dictionaries like dictionary.com specify contagious as a qualifier, while others like Merriam Webster define it more generally as to get, developer, or become afflicted with.

Read all the .com Dictionaries you want, you still haven't a clue. People don't contract Cancer.

Jack's not dead! Jack would never die without telling me, first!

I clearly said that dictionary.com’s definition precludes cancer as contractible, while Merriam Webster includes it. Merriam Webster is not a “.com Dictionary [sic]”; it has been one of the definitive sources of English grammar—in print no less—for almost two hundred years.

People don't contract Cancer.Tell that to countless doctors who would disagree.

Now where did I put that Ignore pedantic-douche button. Ah, yes; there it is. Click.

apparently now you can contract cancer, the thing is this disease evolves..mutates.

ever heard of that thing with michael douglas? he only contracted oral std with one of his former flames, and it progressed into cancer, oral cancer or tongue cancer.

also hpv and frequent exposure to different kinds of stds eventually lead and progress/mutate into cervical cancer, etc.

so in essence you can contract cancer.

At the risk of continuing this digression, and with all due respect, cervical cancer is virtually exclusively caused by certain variants of the human papilloma virus or HPV. The only cancer danger with oral sex is also HPV. Now back to the dirt about Michael and Jennifer.....
