RIP poor guy

Yea I’m not so sure about the poor guy bit. He didn’t just take his life, he knowingly and most likely, permanently traumatized his wife Aubrey Plaza as well as everyone else in his life who cared about him.
What about his assistant who stumbled in and found his corpse hanging there, yea, she’s fucked for life too.
It was a selfish BS move.
If someone is going to kill themselves they should have the decency to do it in distant isolation, not in the center of their lived-in footprint, that’s passive aggressive, narcissistic behavior at its finest.

reply

Ummm he has no obligation to stay alive if he is in unbearable pain

reply

Correct, you’re absolutely right, but he does have an obligation to spare his family the gut wrenching, permanent trauma of discovering his corpse.

reply

Sometimes there’s no other way to do it. You think he should have left a warning message?

reply

It could've been better for him to send out a timed message to the authorities or something.

I see both sides here. Him doing so would've been better, and definitely possible.

And you'd assume it would cross his mind how doing so this way would hurt his loved ones extra, but it's not on us to say what actually went through his mind then. Or anyone else's mind ever, for that matter. Unless someone here is actually a mind reader.

And maybe it would've been better to do it somewhere isolated. But maybe he also just wanted to die at home.

It is sad, and yes, to us, it's selfish. But people who kill themselves, well, they're generally in great pain and tend to think they're doing their loved ones a favor by no longer being here.

Either way, we'll never know and it's really none of our business. Just sad for him and everyone else.

Aubrey Plaza, she's young enough to try to move on from this and hopefully will, so that her life isn't ruined. But she'll be forever changed and traumatized, surely. Which will undoubtedly change the trajectory of her career, at least in the kind of work she does, I'd guess.

You have no idea what his state of mind was when he ended his life. People who end their own lives are often not thinking rationally the way you are. They literally can't. Consider yourself fortunate if you have no idea what I'm talking about. There's a reason they often say someone was "driven to suicide."

reply

So sad. May he rest in peace.

reply

When people are depressed enough to kill themselves, they don’t necessarily have the wherewithal to plan these things out. Their state of mind hinders their ability to think beyond the pain. We should bear this in mind. Perspective is important.
