and... so his movie career is pretty much over before it started
That's too bad. I actually used to like the guy.
Seems like a little humility would have gone a long way.

It is rather unfair that his career is judged by one box office bomb when you look at other actors who keep getting lead roles (ie - Jason Bateman) in movies that stink to high heaven and lose money. '
Keep in my mind, I think Taylor's a pretty mediocre actor too but why is he refused work when others who are just as mediocre get more work?
I've read repeatedly that he demanded too much money for the roles he was offered - but I mean, come on, outside of Twilight he is still pretty much a nobody.
Look at Rob's and Kristen's careers since then - they've done a lot of indies that I am sure didn't pay much, they just choose projects they are passionate about. I mean, _financially_ all three of them are set for life in any case.
That was why I said above that a little humility would have gone a long way.
I never read that, plus that's a job done by their agent. Even so, I doubt he walked away from offers due to low pay.
shareJust Google something like "why Hollywood no longer casts Taylor Lautner", you'll see.
Besides, you are saying this as though an agent can insist on something not authorized by those s/he is representing.
Google returns a bunch of gossip fodder, including the conjecture that he refuses to be paid lesser than what he wants with zero references to any public statements that he claimed that. Fake News
shareBelieve what you will. I say, there are too many sources.
all of the "sources" are nameless, hence it's viewed as gossip.

I don't really care, but there was a time I could easily see him as the next Bourne-type kind of action hero, and instead his career just stopped in its tracks.
Doing TV after something as huge as Twilight is an enormous step down.
The next Matt Damon? That's a stretch. He'd have to at least have a couple of Goodwill Hunting type lead roles for that to happen.
shareYou don't need to be a good dramatic actor to be an action star. Just look at Dwayne Johnson.
Dwayne Johnson built his rep in WWE and is VERY dramatic from an over-the-top standpoint. Taylor Lautner is rather flat and one-dimensional (as are dozens of other male actors who keep getting cast).
shareOkay [shrug]
I could see his career going that way, you apparently could not - I don't see how it matters.

Maybe he doesn't need more work. He has already worked since he was a little kid ffs. He's rich enough.

His career really did fucking tank hard.
After Twilight they tried to turn him into an action hero with films like Abduction and Tracers, and when they didn't work it seems like the studios just washed their hands of the guy.
He had no talent to begin with. Dude can't act his way out of a paper bag.
