'Old conservative white guy' with a question. Why do so many transgender

people get lumped in together? To me there's clearly two types. First, the ones who've had a surgery. If you genuinely feel like you're born into the wrong sex that you take the sea changing step of having your "meat and two veg" removed (which would be my worst nightmare) if you're that committed, then you deserve my tolerance and compassion, if not my outright endorsement. The other type are those who keep their male equipment intact while masquerading as a woman. Sorry, but to me that will always sound like, at best a fraternity prank. And at worst, an attempt to humiliate and embarrass some straight guy, 'Crying Game' style. I realize that for some in the LGBT community and for some straight women, humiliating and embarrassing a straight guy is funny. That's why they celebrate the 2nd type that I described. I don't agree. Sounds like blindsided bullying to me. Anyone know which type Ms Cox is?

I can tell you it is not covered under Canadian health care. It's either out of pocket or covered by health insurance.

I wasn't really certain about that but I once remember Caroline 'Tula' Cossey - on a talk show about 20 years ago - said the National Health system in England covered sex changes there, but that wasn't the route she took, however. I wasn't really sure about Canada, but I thought I had heard something about that also nearly 20 years ago, but I guess that was incorrect.

What some U.S. transsexuals have done (again this is something I've heard about, but don't actually know anyone who has done this, but it appears to be true), is they will apply for SSI or Social Security disability and it usually takes at least two years to get approved. When they are approved they get 'backpay' from the time they first applied til the time they were approved. This can be anywhere from $12,000 or $15,000. Then they find a surgeon here or overseas to perform the surgery. Inadvertently the government pays for it, but not directly. Only through a loophole. I don't think it is actually illegal to do that, though.
