Wow

I really wish she would've had a bigger role in Black Swan! I actually looked her up because I wanted to know who played Veronica in the movie, my first thought was WOW this girl is gorgeous! So then I decided to check out Lost Girl. Not only pretty, but she's a pretty talented actress. Hopefully we see more of her in the coming years!

Renegadepress.com is an exceptional show, and completely unknown to most of the world. The supporting website is fantastic! Character blogs and articles relating to the issues raised by the episodes; web links to resources and information to help teens learn about and navigate those same issues in their real lives. Impressive. The show walks the walk, as they say.

The commitment to have Native actors play Native characters is also admirable, and adds a lot to the show, in which Native issues play a significant role.

I do love the show, despite its low budget and its sometimes inconsistent writing and acting, because when it's good, it's REALLY good. And, as obscure as it was, Ksenia still managed to win two (2) Gemini awards for her performances in it.

As if that's not enough, other alumni of the show include Nolan Gerard Funk, Magda Apanowicz, Bronson Pelletier, Kristin Fairlie, and (last but not least) the extraordinary Tatiana Maslany. Not bad, eh?

But, for me, it's all about Ksenia Solo.

Kenzi won me over a half-dozen episodes into the first season of Lost Girl, and I've been a huge fan ever since. She's not an actor who relies on grand gestures. She understands nuance, and she has a talent for inhabiting her characters in a very natural way. The role of Kenzi could have been a two-dimensional comic-relief character in the wrong hands, but Ksenia really brought her to life with her charming, spirited performances, and her naturalistic acting style. I always believe her when she's on screen. Know what I mean? :-)

There are many actors I admire very much, nobody has captured my imagination or my heart the way the diminutive Ms. Solo has. I am not quite sure why... but there it is. I absolutely adore her, and am working on seeing everything she has ever done. (I will fail, because some of those older shows are just gone, and Locke & Key will probably never see the light of day, but there are enough out there to keep it interesting.)

Renegade would also be gone if someone hadn't recorded all the episodes and uploaded them to YouTube. Some are missing the first minute or two, but without that YouTube channel, Renegade would be lost. How sad that would be. I'd buy a box set of the 5 seasons, if such a thing existed, but alas... it does not.
