What sounds better?

I saw a clip on YouTube a while back where during their Piper at the Gates of Dawn days, they appeared on a show, and the host called them "The Pink Floyd". I thought, "hey that sounds so mysterious". So what do you think: Pink Floyd or The Pink Floyd?

Pink Floyd ('the Floyd' as a nickname is acceptable).

"The Floyd" sounds like someone is trying to pretend they're a fan of them but can't name a song.
