Murder/Suicide with or without Oscar?
I guess Gig Young shot people, not horses, to include himself. Gig started out with a promising acting career, but he was a long, longtime alcoholiche basically lucked into an supporting actor Oscar in 1969's "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?" Gig's drinking was so disruptive he got fired on movie sets(like his very first day on the set of 1974's Blazing Saddles). No huge surprise Gig ended up acting in movies for another infamously bad-boy drinker Sam Pekingpah.
By the end of the 70's though, Gig's drinking had destroyed his personal life(5 marriages) and his career. He had the misfortune of being prescribed LSD under the care of the psychologist and psychotherapist Eugene Landy, who later had his professional California medical license revoked amidst accusations of ethical violations and misconduct with patients.
It's possible the LSD along with his heavy drinking led to Gig killing his new(5th!) wife and himself in their Manhattan apartment on Oct 19, 1978. His agent was left in his will.
Some say Gig was found dead with his diary open to his Sep 27 entry "we got married today" along with his murdered wife and Oscar nearby.
