If they were simply coworkers, he wouldn't have been there at the hospital, he wouldn't have been so distraught when he got shot, and he wouldn't display any guilt over what he's doing with Lori now. For the record, I don't think the fact that they're having sex is worthy of all that much of a moral freak-out, considering the situation they're in. Dismissing a character who is in the middle of apocalyptic panic as a "slut" for sleeping with somebody when she is probably pretty sure her husband is dead is just looking for a reason to hate her. They were having marital problems before anything even happened, everybody's terrified, there are so many psychological factors at stake and we don't even know the entire story - The marriage has not been characterized yet. I think the sex is partly a symptom of grief, and it's absurd to think that she doesn't care. I don't think Lori's a slut; I think both she and Shane are flawed, complicated, interesting characters. If I was interested in coddling characters who I believe do no wrong I would watch a show that isn't about the way humans behave during a zombie apocalypse, for Christ sake.
