You would assume if the person is telling their friends on the site they are leaving and they could do it via PM. That I get but to most people posting a thread saying that is hysteria.
Some forums are over moderated and just about anything can get you in trouble. I was told off once because I used the term "Grammar Nazi" apparently it could be offensive to victims of the holocaust. For a start I highly doubt there were any on the forum and secondly even if there were, the term would be one of the least offensive things they have ever dealt with.
Well I suppose they thought the term would be offensive to Jewish people in general. But yeah, that's a silly word to ban.
MovieChat used to have a rep for over moderation and hair trigger bans. But I see that has changed.
I've been an Admin and Mod on forums and it is a balancing act. If you over moderate you just drive people out or reduce them to making a small number of posts. Allow too much stupidity and you also end up driving people out.
Some forums have really stupid rules too.

lol I hated IMDB2, troll haven and it seemed perfectly fine. Never been on filmboards but I have heard a little about it.
shareI was Admin on fb for 4 years. The owner put me in charge to diversify the place.
In 2017 it was dominated by trolls from IMDb's old GoT and Walking Dead boards. I was able to bring in a more serious clientele and made some improvements.
But I got resistance from the entrenched trolls and the owner felt beholden to them. The place is rife with doxxing and clique battles. It also has one overall anonymous account which posters can use to troll by completely hiding their original user identity.
The owner seems content with the same group of 30 to 40 posters on hundreds of socks. It hasn't grown appreciably in 6 years. It has maybe one tenth the activity of MovieChat.
Such a waste.
