shareWhat do you have to do to get into the "hates america" club?
obviously showing absolute disdain for the president (or last president) doesent count or that would be all americans
So whats waters done?
What's to like about the US at this point? Are you particularly enamored of their brand of governmental abuse toward it's citizenry? Or is it their nefarious efforts on the global stage that gets you excited? I agree with Mr. Waters regarding Russia, dunno about China but I know little about China.
shareamerica is a democracy and will self correct. trump can't live forever.
sharenone of that is true
shareI'm sorry- how old are you to say something so clueless?
shareDemocracy is mob rule. Democracy in and of itself does not infer freedom, either. In the United States current predicament and direction, Democracy is a figurative cudgel to quash dissenters.
In other words, Democracy is Communism.
I get that, but what I dislike about Waters is that,
while it is fine to criticize America, or now the British Tories,
that is not a good reason to turn to support the bad guys
without a good reason.
I agree with Waters on Ukraine, Russia's invasion was not
unprovoked, but that doesn't mean one has to go full support
behind Putin. Nor China. But especially the Palestinians.
How in the world did the Palestinians terrorist non-state
become the pathetic mascot of the Left. I'm a Left/Liberal/
Progressive and while I feel sad and sympathetic for the
Palestinian people, they bring their problems on themselves
through terrorism and bad government and culture of hate.
he has always been a jerk.
drove Syd Barret crazy.
couldn't get along with the guys who helped him become rich and famous.
got kicked out of the band he formed.
court gave the name to a non-original member
he seems to like the totalitarian type regimes.
share1- can't nessecarily disagree on that one
2- Syd already had an underlying mental issue AND was dropping a fuck ton of LSD on top of that.
3- once again, can't really disagree there, though there does seem to be a lot of ego problems in the band to go around.
4- actually he wasn't kicked out. He quit, and then tried to sue them to stop them from using the name. Which he lost.
5-Yes, but a non-original member who had been with the band for over 95% of their existence & was a key factor in their sucess.
i was kidding about Syd.
I agree Gilmour was key in their success.
Waters has created his own private dystopia and he needs to live in it by himself IMO.
concerning number 3. that happens in a lot bands. Having my ego in check, I think I would love the guys who me get rich, famous, and have sex with women who wouldn't look at me otherwise.
Duran Duran seems to have that aspect under control.
he loves it here, he toured all the states & has told them how great they are
shareI detest Roger Waters. He talks on and on about stuff that often he really has either not informed himself on or just picked up from other far-Lefties.
I'm a far-Leftie, but there is a lot about the Left to criticize and ignore. No mass movement is coherent in its every belief, and no human being is so easily described here as you describe Roger Waters.
He happens to have studied up on Ukraine and spoke to the UN about it a couple days ago. Someone who blindly loves China and Russia and hates the US does not get to do that without having something, and a following.
He is lobbying for peace in Ukraine. I support him for that. But as usual per old Rog, he could not keep from mentioning Palestine. It was OK, he just said it once. He really does seem to hate Israel.
Personally, I've never gotten the whole relevance of the Palestinians to the Western Left/Progressive movement. That sad poor country run by barbarians with guns, bombs, hate and dedicated to terrorism has so little to do with the issues or solutions to the average citizens of the West or of the world it only makes the Left less likely to convince people of their cause.
You seem more like a vintage "far Leftie", you know the ones who were anti-war.
Those ones I could understand and agree with (mostly).
These days "far Leftie" seems to embrace or at least accept war for some reason?
Anyone who embraces this war or who supports escalating it is not of the Left in any way.
We have had 30+ years of media manipulation. If you go to YouTube and find a channel called the Memory Hole, which consists of a ton of public interest show and documentaries from the 70's on to the 80's you can find the history of what got us to this point - and it was nothing to do with the Left.
The people who claim to be of the Left here on MovieChat are nothing but fake trolls who just confuse people, or are so confused by the media manipulation that they have no idea about the anti-war movement.
I personally think what we see is fake. I heard online that there are mass demonstrations against this war in Europe that no one in America is reporting on - and meanwhile we are getting all amped up because of supposed UFOs and balloons from China, while some of our military people are popping off in public about how they think we will be at war with China by 2025.
Through corruption, inequality, and bad policies the US has devolved to the point where we are an empire and may be stuck with either being an empire or devolving into chaos and civil war because our lives are unreasonable easy because we steal from the rest of the world so much - and from our own people.
I was surprise a little that channels like Democracy Now! and Pacifica, the Leftist radio stations are pro-war, and Lefties like Thom Hartmann is supporting this ... and they do it because they are afraid if they don't they will get shut down or attacked. Pacifica got bombed in the 70's for being against Vietnam.
There is megatons of history that most Americans have no idea about - because teaching the truth in history class in schools is considered CRT, and likely to make American children feel bad about America. Translation - want major political and eocnomic changes.
Or to copy myself ...
All repressive regimes are right-wing - that is they are undemocratic.
The split is along lines of democracy or autocracy, and basically ...
Fascism = Capitalism - Democracy
Socialism = Capitalism + Democracy
It makes no sense for the Left to embrace autocracy, because if they do, they are the Right.
There is a zone of autocracy close to the middle where a Right-wing autocracy can be good for people - such as China which has raised their people from poverty tby regimenting them for "the greater good".
Then there is the Taliban which is a right-wing totalitarian autocracy for the benefit of an elite religious few that is doing nothing or their people and is as far from democratic as can be.
The US now borders on a Right-wing autocracy, where the elites in power used to be a least a little sympathetic to the people, but as they elites have grown and globalism has put them in competitition with corrupt aristocratic elites around the world, American elites want what their global brothers have and are taking it out on Americans.
He's self-cancelling.
share"try to figure out what the US would do if the Chinese were putting nuclear armed missiles into Mexico and Canada"
Is what he implying wrong though?
