Trump endangers USA with National Nuclear Security Administration firings.

Trump firings cause chaos at agency responsible for America's nuclear weapons

Scenes of confusion and chaos unfolded over the last two days at the civilian agency that oversees the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile, as the Trump administration's mass firings were carried out before being "paused" on Friday.

Officials were given hours to fire hundreds of employees, and workers were shut out of email as termination notices arrived.

The NNSA is a semi-autonomous agency within the Department of Energy that oversees the U.S. stockpile of thousands of nuclear weapons. Despite having the words "National" and "Security" in its title, it was not getting an exemption for national security, managers at the agency were told last Friday, according to an employee at NNSA who asked not to be named, fearing retribution from the Trump administration.

Some workers were responsible for making sure emergency response plans were in place at sites like a giant facility in Texas, where thousands of dismantled warheads are stored. Others worked to prevent terrorists and rogue nations from acquiring weapons-grade plutonium or uranium. Many had "Q" clearances, the highest level security clearance at the Department of Energy.

In the end, it didn't matter. On Thursday, officials were told that the vast majority of the exemptions they had asked for were denied by the Trump administration.

Nuclear security is highly specialized, high-pressure work, but it's not particularly well paid, one employee told NPR. Given what's unfolded over the past 24 hours, "why would anybody want to take these jobs?"

This is a very important job. Why fire these workers unless it is to put the USA in danger? Trump is supposed to be working for the American people. It seems like he is siding with the terrorists, again. Like he did in Afghanistan when he released 5000 Taliban so they could kill more Americans.

You're mentally ill LOL

reply

More name-calling.

reply

You're mentally ill too.

reply

Slurs seem to be MAGAs go-to answer to any criticism of Trump.

reply

And that makes you upset lol

reply

No, just sad to read or hear that it's a MAGAs only retort.

reply

Have you considered SMD faggot?

reply

His supporters don't care. They want to burn down this country.

reply

No, that was done by the militants of the DNC (Antifa/BLM) when they set dozens of fires to our cities.

reply

Trump changes his mind on firing those responsible for safeguarding our nukes.

National Nuclear Security Administration officials on Friday attempted to notify some employees who had been let go the day before that they are now due to be reinstated — but they struggled to find them because they didn’t have their new contact information.

In an email sent to employees at NNSA and obtained by NBC News, officials wrote, “The termination letters for some NNSA probationary employees are being rescinded, but we do not have a good way to get in touch with those personnel.”

President Donald Trump’s administration has acted with unprecedented speed — and in some cases, questionable legality — in seeking to cut large portions of the federal government, laying off staff and ending contracts. But that speed has resulted in complications, including firing people agencies actually want to keep.

Was Trump stupid to fire these people? Is he stupid to allow the NNSA to rehire these people? Or perhaps Trump is just a god damned f*cking idiot overall?

reply

What good is securing our border when he goes into NNSA & the Dept of Homeland security to recklessly fire employees? 🤔

reply

They don't want the border secured. That would interfere with their supply of cheap and easy to exploit labor. The ICE deportations are just window dressing.

You have to ask questions like why? Why is it under department of energy instead of department of defence?

reply

What is your answer to that?

reply

I have no idea, but it is just weird, isn't it?

According to: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Nuclear_Security_Administration

NNSA has the following missions with regard to national security:[12]

To manage the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile.
To reduce global danger from weapons of mass destruction and to promote international nuclear safety and nonproliferation.
To provide the United States Navy with safe, militarily effective nuclear propulsion plants and to ensure the safe and reliable operation of those plants.

The first and third missions are both defence related. The second mission is foreign policy related.

But it is a part of department of energy, which is just weird.

reply

And Trump wanted them gone. That is what matters.

reply

The question needed to be asked whether that agency can be absorbed by department of defence.

Maybe they should simply be a liaison office with like a dozen of staffs.

Instead of:

Employees: 2,600+ federal (2024), 65,000 contract (2024)
Annual budget: $22.2 billion (FY24)

How did it get to hire 65K contract staff, with over 22 billion budget? Even NIH only has 50 billion budget.

They don't really do anything material, like nuclear propulsion I assume is provided by defence giants, probably cost less than 22 billion a year. Nuclear weapons I assume are maintained by department of defence.

Why is an agency overseeing things costing so much?

Aren't you curious where did all the money go?

reply

I am curious. I'm also curious as to when Musk will show any proof that he has uncovered any fraud or waste.

I suspect this is mostly a smoke screen in his attempt at taking our personal data. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/elon-musks-doge-asks-access-irs-taxpayer-data/story?id=118883475

reply

The IRS data access was weird too, because it does not really related to cost cutting, unless they are planning to cut cost at IRS, still that would not need taxpayer data.

Since Trump is being audited, like no stop, I don't think it is over yet, at least he used that reason not to publish his tax returns as a presidential candidate. That is really into the territory of self-serving.

I guess whoever was auditing Trump got to be told:"You are fired!", and all the files are "missing".

reply

Trump has been able to avoid some IRS auditing. There is a bill in the House that would make it mandatory for presidents. Guess who is opposed to it; the GOP of course.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House took action Thursday after disclosures that the IRS never fully reviewed Donald Trump’s tax returns during his presidency, passing a bill that would require audits of any president’s income tax filings. The legislation would turn what had been a long-standing post-Watergate norm into established federal policy.

The Democrat-led measure provides a capstone to a yearslong investigation of Trump’s tenure as the first president in recent history not to disclose his tax returns to the public. The legislation faced staunch opposition from Republicans and has little chance of becoming law in the final days of this Congress. But it is seen as a starting point for future efforts to bolster oversight of the presidency.

reply

Just pure criminal incompetence on Trump's part..
