For crying out loud, he's really said that. Forget about inflation, he'll raise tariffs!
Grocery stores make about 1-3% profit margin. Anyone want to guess that if Trump tried to raise tariffs, grocery stores would just raise prices? And then would he start complaining about "high tariffs"?

Only manufactured goods will rise in price due to tariffs, because most of those things are likely imported.
But food is another matter, because I don't think US imports basic foods, like milk, eggs and meats. Though the containers of those basic foods are likely imported, caused at least some level of price increase. The basic tools used by farmers, which are likely imported, could have increased the cost of basic farm products as well.
There is no way a lot of basic manufactured goods can be produced in US due to high labour cost. I think to bring back manufacturing jobs to US, it will have to be things like cars.
But most foreign cars are imported from South Korea, Japan and Europe, Trump knew that, I think that is why he started talking about Europe treating US unfairly, but before he was able to do anything he was replaced by Biden.
Not sure if he would be able to do anything this time if he were elected again.
THIS scares me.
