Trump compares jailed Capitol rioters to Japanese internment during World War II

Former President Donald Trump on Friday compared the people jailed on charges that they stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, to the more than 120,000 people of Japanese origin incarcerated on U.S. soil during World War II.

“Why are they still being held? Nobody’s ever been treated like this,” he said in an interview with conservative commentator Dan Bongino. “Maybe the Japanese during Second World War, frankly. They were held, too."

The GOP presidential nominee has consistently tried to play down the storming of the Capitol by his supporters who tried to overturn his 2020 election loss, portraying it earlier this week as a “day of love." About 140 officers were injured that day, making it likely the largest assault of American law enforcement in a single day. Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt was shot and killed by police.

Trump has previously said the rioters have been “horribly treated” and has referred to those still jailed as “hostages” and “victims,” repeatedly calling for their release and suggesting he would pardon them if re-elected.

Not long ago Trump and MAGA claimed that the Jan. 6 insurrection attempt was caused by Antifa, BLM and FBI agents. So why does Trump want to pardon them?

reply

I think he's referring to ones being detained unjustly.

reply

Why do you make excuses for the stupid things Trump says?

reply

Why is it stupid to say that some people arrested from J6 have been treated unjustly? Have you ever stopped to learn about how the government has treated them?

reply

Which ones have been detained unjustly? Names? Most of the rioters who are behind bars confessed to their crimes.

I don't find much point in responding much since your entire worldview seems to be contingent on a small piece of plastic that was temporarily outlawed.

If you are interested in being free of such a worldview, then I can engage in more detail.

reply

You say small piece of plastic. I say 2nd Amendment rights. Don't forget that Trump wants gun confiscation (any gun) without due process.

I think nothing can convince you to go into more detail.

In my state there are people who had revolving door "justice" for trying to burn down a Federal Courthouse with people in it, and folks who never served a day or paid a dime for disorderly conduct and assaulting police officers. In the Floyd riots, there were people who were bailed out by the Minnesota Freedom Fund, which Kamala Harris expressed support for. If people who were burning down businesses and trying to burn down Federal Courthouses with people in them -- and police precinct buildings with policemen in them -- get to walk free, then everyone in the above list is unjustly imprisoned.

It's obviously -- well, not to you, of course -- a two-tiered "justice" system.

reply

Trump likes that kind of justice. Instead of staying in jail awaiting trial, he is free to run for president.

reply

Because rich people can prove they can pay the penalty while they're appealing the case. Poor people can't, and wind up sitting in jail.
Of course, in the cases I mentioned, they were all poor people trying to kill people repeatedly by attempting to burn down the Mark O. Hatfield Courthouse with people in it, and getting to just walk. Not quite the same thing. Or the Floyd riots where businesses were torched, people's livelihoods were destroyed. Different thing entirely.
And Trump had asked for the National Guard to be called out on J6, but someone dismissed that.
So no, this isn't the kind of "justice" Trump likes.

reply

Trump was indicted for stealing classified records. Do you think you could stay out of jail while awaiting trial or for your case to be dismissed if you did that?

No one is allowed to dismiss the orders of the president in that case; he is the commander in chief. Are you really telling me that Trump was some kind of doormat and not the commander in chief? Why do you want a doormat to be president?

If Trump had actually order the National Guard to deploy, they would have done so.

reply

Biden took classified documents out of a skiff while he was a Senator. Trump took the documents while he was President and could declassify them. And yet Biden was able to stay out of jail. I guess that kind of justice doesn't just apply to Trump, huh?
Trump wanted to deploy the National Guard to Oregon to stop Antifa from trying to burn down the Federal Courthouse with people in it, but my Governor at the time, Brown, wouldn't allow it. Apparently, despite what some Democrats think, Presidents aren't absolute dictators.
"The delay in deployment was attributed to multiple factors, including bureaucratic processes, concerns over the visual impact of military presence, and the need for formal requests from Capitol Police or other local authorities." Grok

reply

Is there any evidence that Trump actually declassified any of the documents he took? There is none. Trump has not gone to prison for stealing classified records, so what is your problem?

The reason why Biden and Pence were not charged is that they returned the documents they had upon request. Trump refused to return the documents, so he was charged. It really is that simple.

If Trump wanted to deploy the National Guard, there was nothing to stop him from doing so. Why do you think the power of the president does not exceed that of a governor? You act like Trump is some kind of doormat, why?

reply

His faithful MAGA idiots will believe any lie he spews. We need to be rid of this orange-faced scumbag.

reply

Establishment shill imbeciles will believe any lie from the MSM rectum. We need to be rid of the anti-Trump brigade.

reply

Trump refused to pardon those criminals for their crimes even though he had weeks to do so prior to leaving office. Trump bragged he could do anything he wanted per Article 2 of the Constitution, pardoning his rioters was just something he did not want to do.

reply

Trump can be a disgusting coward at times.

reply

I think Trump is a disgusting coward almost all of the time.

reply

TDS is real. When someone gets his ear grazed by a bullet because the Secret Service all but stood down to let it happen, you get to see what they're made of. I think you have to be a knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing idiot not to be impressed with the way Trump handled himself.

reply

What does that have to do with refusing to pardon the rioters that Trump claimed to love? Trump called on them to delay the electoral vote count, then stabbed with in the back. That is what Trump is made of.

Trump hides behind glass when speaking in public now, he mocks the widow of the man behind him who was killed, that is his character.

reply

You said you thought Trump was a coward most of the time. That's what I'm addressing.

reply

Sounds about right. Another very legit comparison is the Democrat Party is becoming the modern day Nazis.

Also 1/6 was “mostly peaceful”, for you to smear the entire crowd as “rioters” is bigoted.

reply

I'm only calling the rioting crowd, rioters.

reply

That wasn't many. Most walked in through doors opened by police. They walked in single file. Even that Shaman dude was escorted around by the police. They have it on camera.

The people who personally broke out windows or walked off with property should have gotten the same punishment that shoplifters get who grab stuff in Walmart or break property in stores. That is to say, no time served/no cash bail.

reply

Then name the people who got a raw deal. Why are you so vague?

reply

So why do you think these people were not treated fairly?

reply

I'm not aware that democrat rallies and crowds were so popular with the flag waving nazis. Even Fox does not show nazis at democrat events unless they're protesting in favor of Trump.

reply

Lay off the fake news, the Democrat Party is actively trying to have Trump murdered, they are just as bad as the Nazis and the KKK.

reply

Republicans are trying to murder Trump. Better get used to it. There is no reason to believe that they're done trying.

reply

You are a liar, and I have explained to you multiple times that it is the left that is trying to murder Trump. You don’t like the facts and you’re trying to make excuses. You are a traitor just like Kamala.

reply

Your declarations are meaningless. If a registered republican takes a shot at Trump, this means in your eyes they are automatically a democrat. Your nonsense does not make any sense at all.

Almost everyone else knows that simply declaring something to be true does not make it so; why don't you?

reply

Quit peddling your lies, they were both committed leftists. Like Kamala your lies and conspiracy theories are going to get someone hurt and it’s scary.

reply

And you're pretending to be so stupid you don't know people register with the opposite Party to be able to vote for the easier-to-beat candidate in the Primary, then vote for the same Party they've given money to all along.

Good grief, your arguments are lame. Are you from England? If so, then yes -- you wouldn't know how things are done here in America. Otherwise, you're pretending to be stupid or are stupid, one of the two.

reply

Yes, that happens at times. What is your proof that is was the case with Crooks?

reply

The fact that he only gave money to ActBlue. If he were a real Republican, he'd have given to at least one Republican/conservative group and no liberal/Democrat ones.

reply

Crooks the child gave money to the democrats, Crooks the adult registered as a republican. Those are the facts. Why do you need to spin them?

reply

It blows my mind that most of them got away or maybe got a year at best for their crimes.

They tried to overturn an election and put hundreds of Congressmen are risk. In any other country they would've been thrown under the jail and with the key tossed.
