Special counsel Jack Smith has outlined new details of former President Donald Trump and his allies' sweeping and "increasingly desperate" efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss, in a blockbuster court filing Wednesday aimed at defending Smith's prosecution of Trump following the Supreme Court's July immunity ruling.

Trump intentionally lied to the public, state election officials, and his own vice president in an effort to cling to power after losing the election, while privately describing some of the claims of election fraud as "crazy," prosecutors alleged in the 165-page filing.

"When the defendant lost the 2020 presidential election, he resorted to crimes to try to stay in office," the filing said. "With private co-conspirators, the defendant launched a series of increasingly desperate plans to overturn the legitimate election results in seven states that he had lost."

When Trump's effort to overturn the election through lawsuits and fraudulent electors failed to change the outcome of the election, prosecutors allege that the former president fomented violence, with prosecutors describing Trump as directly responsible for "the tinderbox that he purposely ignited on January 6."

"The defendant also knew that he had only one last hope to prevent Biden's certification as President: the large and angry crowd standing in front of him. So for more than an hour, the defendant delivered a speech designed to inflame his supporters and motivate them to march to the Capitol," Smith wrote.

I can't wait to see Trump's tantrum over this.

Fun Fact: Current President Joe Biden/Vice President Kamala Harris got more votes than the incumbent and now EX-president DJT because DJT was fired by the citizens of the USofA that voted. Biden/Harris had 306 Electoral College Votes to Trump/Pence 232 Electoral College Votes. That means by your math that Trump/Pence lost by 74 electoral college votes.

As to the popular vote:

Biden/Harris 81,284,666 votes (51.3%)
Trump/Pence 74,224,319 votes (46.8%)

By your own math that means 7,060,347 more people voted for Biden/Harris than voted for Trump/Pence.

Trump/Pence lost the electoral college vote AND the popular vote. DJT and Pence were both rejected and fired by a consensus plurality of the voting public.

Another Fun Fact: Turnout soared in 2020 as nearly two-thirds of eligible U.S. voters cast ballots for president. That means about 1/3 of the eligible voters in the USofA still didn't vote. Of the roughly 155 million people who voted there are still another 75 million Americans who did NOT vote.

One more Fun Fact: The number of eligible voters is increasing for this election year. Expect to see a greater participation rate by both parties with only a minor spin off to 3rd parties and possibly write-in candidates. DJT/Vance could very well garner even more votes than in his 2020 election loss and still lose by a greater number of votes because Harris/Walz is experiencing a surge also. Women seem particularly invested in this election. 🗽🗽👍

The extension in Pennsylvania was repealed by the SCOTUS. Those late ballots had nothing to do with delaying counting in PA, since they were put aside and not even counted.

What does delay things in PA is that Republicans put in a rule that Election boards cannot start opening, flattening and counting mall ballots until 9 AM on Election day. Since the Election staffs are busy with in person voting until late at night, that means the mail ballots don't start being counted until that night.

Recent changes in GA (like last week!) say that all Ballots have to be counted manually and compared with the number of electronic votes tabulated. That can take a couple of days to count several million ballots. There is no reason to do this, except to delay the results and allow conspiracy theories to take hold.

Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin were/are governed blue states who had no problem changing ballot deadline rules to their benefit. If they wanted to count ballots earlier they would but it's not a benefit for them so they blame Republicans.

Florida started counting on ballots on October 12 with no extension for mail in ballots. Results: Biden had the worst loss in Florida since 2004.

No reason? Biden had a whopping 5% differential gain in Georgia compared to Hillary in a state Democrats hadn't won since 1992. That was very suspect and deserving of additional protocols for election integrity.

Pennsylvania has pretty much has a Republican legislature until this term when Democrats took control of ONE of the houses by a single seat.

Republicans put the late vote counting in place. And Republicans voted for the change to allowing anyone to vote by mail.

Biden took Georgia in large part because of the work led by Stacy Abrams registering African Americans to vote.
