As I understand it, anyone charged with committing crimes is asked to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty, and if they say they're guilty then they're jailed immediately.

That is not true. In the USA there is still "Due Process" and an arraignment and then sentencing after trial. The judge decides if they are a flight risk and bond is set.

But if they say not guilty, then they're still jailed ON REMAND until the time of their trial, and kept jailed overnight until the trial is over, and if they're found not guilty then they're free to leave, otherwise, it's the full sentence as always.

Not all crimes are created equal and judges have discretion as to the punishment dealt out. BUT there is always "Due Process" because this was an arraignment hearing and not a sentencing hearing. If it was a sentencing hearing and he pleaded Guilty, and it was a felony with jail time, then OFF and away DJT goes.

So why, and HOW, can Trump just saunter in time and again, say not guilty and walk out again, free as a bird?

You are right in that he was not held but he is NOT free and there are conditions that he agreed to in order to allow him time to prepare for trial.

Is it because he's an ex-Pres, or rich? I heard he's not even rich now, so that doesn't count.

Uh, no. DJT got no special treatment as an EX-president with this judge. If you look on the Trump forum you'll see a few posts that DJT was irked that the judge called him Mr. Trump and nothing else BUT Mr. Trump!!

The indictments against Trump are a fucking JOKE, because rich interested parties are defending him and holding off imprisonment until he can somehow get himself pardoned, and Trump is absolutely fine with that, and so are his rich donors. Bastards!

You are spot on and Trump is and will try and do ANYTHING to get re-elected or have a sympathetic Republican get elected who will pardon him.

Here is another angle that could very well happen.

Nixon was pardoned by Ford so that the country could "Heal". Biden might do the very same thing in order to try and "Heal" the country rather than wipe out Trumpism and go after all of those involved with this "Coup" against Democracy. This country bent over backwards after the Civil War and the "Lost Cause" grew out of that by the North not sanctioning the Confederacy.

You're mixing a few things up. The indictments are not a joke, the judicial system and the rights of citizens make it almost impossible to have a speedy trial. The system can be gamed in a number of ways. DJT has been gaming and scamming legal accountability since forever.

The funniest part is they indict like 40x for the same so-called “crime”. Like a cop following someone speeding for 10 miles and giving them 40 speeding tickets.

Even funnier is when the government charges “conspiracy to commit a conspiracy”. Ie no crime was committed.
