Why do liberals suddenly like John McCain?
seems odd...
shareDems liked him when he was a maverick, which he was until he started voting alongside Bush 2. By 2008, he was just a shell of his former maverick self, and had become just another conservative puppet, even going as far as choosing Sarah Palin as his VP.
However, by the time Trump was elected, McCain knew his political career was coming to a close, and with nothing to lose he started acting like his pre-Bush self.
Though keep in mind I'm talking about democrats here. The further you go to the left, the less endearing liberals get towards the man. Progressives like Jimmy Dore, Kyle Kulinski, and most of TYT will never forget the warhawk that McCain was, and will almost always bring it up whenever his name is mentioned.
He had the good sense to know Donald Trump is a disaster and a moron and that his mouth breathing supporters need some serious education. He knew that working for your party over your country is the path of the weak.
He was, frankly, a better American than most of us can hope to be.
reminds them of GOP before party pedophiles and kkk. Nostalgia is a drug.
shareFaux News educated people believe that liberal and Democrat are the same thing, ditto conservative and Republican. Sorry dittoheads but they are actually different things.
shareBecause logic and liberals don't mix. It's about pure baseless emotion, and putting aside common sense when dealing with the left.
shareNah I'm pretty logical....like I have wicked good deductive skills. Like when I'm all watching Murder She Wrote and stuff I can figure it out who the killer is a good 20% of the time. That's 1 in 5 yo!
But I've always liked McCain and as I said earlier it's possible to disagree with someone's positions and still respect and even like them.
If you've always been in his camp, sure. I've never liked him. He's as old school "good ol boys club" as it gets, and him allowing Sarah to be his running mate was pandering at it's worse. These lefties who suddenly love him purely because he trashes Trump, but hated him 10 years ago are just disingenuous.
shareNot sure I know what it means to be "in his camp." I'm pretty sure I disagree with him on the majority of social issues but he seemed personable, nice and pretty funny (McCain sings Streisand...gold).
There are plenty of far righties who loved him 10 years ago but now hate him because he was willing to stand up to Trump. Is that not disingenuous as well?
In his camp, meaning you supported him in one way or another, not necessarily politically. Yes, anyone who is so fickle they switch views based on a single, moderate action is disingenuous. I think it's a little pathetic on John's part to suddenly become a voice against his party, only when his political career is over. He supported plenty of Republicans that were far worse than Trump when he was an active politician.
shareWell I don't know if that opinion is fair only because he wasn't the voice against his party only when his career was over. First, he voted with the other Republicans plenty of times while Trump was in office. According to fivethirtyeight.com, McCain voted in line with Trump's position 83% of the time. For reference this is only down 4% from the 87% which was his record of voting along party lines from 1987 to 2015.

When it comes to breaking away the one that springs to mind for most people was the healthcare bill but he flat out told those drafting it that he had serious concerns with parts of it and he wouldn't support it if they weren't addressed properly. Although the thumbs down was dramatic he was basically being true to his word.
And second, going against his party on certain issues wasn't new for him. He was dubbed the maverick because he was known for breaking away from his party on certain issues long before Trump was in the picture. You'd be mistaken to think this was a sudden personality shift for him.
Of course, Trump wasn't always a Republican alt-right beacon. Seems his supporters love to disparage Democrats and Independents but forgot Donny was both of those before he found a crowd of rubes who would buy his snakeoil.
shareBecause Liberals are compassionate, Repubs are not.
Because Liberals like to build bridges, Repubs like to build walls.
I remember when he was called a racist when he ran for President, or when his running mate was laughed at and ridiculed for calling Russia a threat to the USA. I hope he burns in hell for killing millions and for arming and training isis. I loved watching my Navajo brothers chase this POS off their rez a few years back.
