He was an absolute legend in is line of work. Imagine having VFX for both 2001: A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters of the Third Kind as well as Blade Runner on your resume.

Its a shame it never worked out for him as a director. Brainstorm was amazing. I did not realize he basically quit Hollywood after that.
