Not good at accents

So they came up with a contrived reason why a Russian would have a Geordie accent in Dexter.

Then I saw GI Joe last night - what accent was that? Sounded American/Australian.....

Having said that I do like him as an actor, just an observation.

Oh don't get me wrong, I like his acting but it was a bit jarring at first in Rome and then Dexter for this guy to have a very pronounced north eastern accent.

You get over it quickly though as he is good.

Faith, he used a Geordie accent in Rome, and RP in Dexter. That you know a Geordie accent when you hear one, but don't apparently recognize RP when you hear it is a bit unusual.

He did an excellent job of sounding like a Cleveland, Ohio native in "Kill the Irishman" so I wouldn't agree with your broad generalization that Mr. Stevenson is not good at accents.

^ I've heard that his accent was good in that film. Not being a mid-westerner, I can't judge how well he did but I'm told by natives from the area (and era) that he did well.

You can hear him do a number of regional British accents here:

Maybe he sounds more Geordie because he's acting with American actors so it excentuates it.

It is there though, I do know a Geordie accent and he definitely had one. Not like Gazza maybe but you can tell he lived in or around Tyne and Wear at some point in his life.
