Why Does M. Night Shyamalan Always Make Cameo Appearances In His Own Movies?

Is he so conceited that he has to appear in every one of his movies?

Perhaps for the same reason that Hitchcock and Stan Lee does.

He certainly comes across as conceited, at least in my eyes. I don't think there's anything wrong with directors doing cameos but in Shy's case he really injects himself as a key character, not just some random background guy. Peter Jackson is the same way in the Lord of the Rings' appearances.
