Joe Rogan Anti-Vax Comments Create New Headache for Spotify

https://variety.com/2021/digital/news/joe-rogan-anti-vaccine-podcast-spotify-1234961803/

In the April 23 episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” which is available exclusively on Spotify, Rogan encouraged healthy young people to not get a COVID-19 vaccine.

“If you’re, like, 21 years old, and you say to me, should I get vaccinated? I’ll go no,” he said in a conversation with comedian Dave Smith.

Rogan commented that he believes vaccines are safe and that people at risk should be vaccinated, noting that both his parents have received COVID-19 shots. But, Rogan continued, “If you’re a healthy person, and you’re exercising all the time, and you’re young, and you’re eating well, like, I don’t think you need to worry about this.” At another point, Rogan said, “We’re talking about something that is not statistically dangerous for children. But yet people still want you to get your child vaccinated, which is crazy to me.”

“The Joe Rogan Experience” is currently the No. 1 podcast on Spotify in the U.S., per its rankings, and has consistently been among its most-listened to shows. It joined Spotify’s lineup in September under a multiyear pact reportedly worth $100 million and became available exclusively on the audio-streaming service in December.

Common sense

Illegal to have the wrong opinion.

reply

It's only a "problem" because companies cave to the mob now. An individual IS allowed to have an opinion different from the mob. It's not illegal or even immoral.

The really fucked up part is he didn't push any anti-science nonsense or conspiracies. He's not Jenny McCarthy or Alex Jones. He offered an opinion. He didn't say anything scientific or factual, just gave an opinion. I just got my first vaccine Thursday, but for fuck's sake, liberals are out of control.

reply

The bitching is hilarious, since he wasn't really saying anything anti vax, just speaking his personal opinion.

reply

Well, I certainly disagree with him on that. It shouldn't create a headache for Spotify, though; they can just release a statement saying, "The views on the JRE are not necessarily..." blah, blah, blah. Just release a press statement saying, "Spotify supports vaccines just like we support our talk show hosts to say what they want."

reply

You'd think it's that simple....
Once upon a time, big tech giants supported the same amount of freedom, but then congress/senate got involved and started calling for the heads of the big tech to explain why joe shmoe was able to say something negative about this or that political candidate. That's when big tech turned into a giant cccp censoring machine (actually, I think big tech simply agreed that their political candidate didn't win because opposing parties had better ads on big tech platforms - so they agreed to do everything possible in order to prevent that from happening again).
Point being, even if you release such statement, congress/senate might begin to 'investigate' your company and apply major pressure to conform with their 'science' views.

reply

And that's why I believe in free speech and think the government should keep out of it.

These companies should take a stand. I don't mind if they have their own codes of conduct, and I do think (morally) they have a responsibility to not disseminate false information, but that's not what JRE is (insofar as it's not presenting itself as a news show or a science journal, and given that many, many different viewpoints are expressed throughout the various guests' appearances taken as an aggregate).

Yes, I know that's easier said than done, and I do understand where sometimes they can't fight every fight.

Still, I bet there are statements that the legal departments could craft to circumnavigate much of these waters.

reply

As I've mentioned in my comment, I think they could have easily fought the gov. allegations off, but chose not to, because the ability to censor very much appealed to the heads of big tech, since they were betting big money on their own political candidates and didn't win. The government pressure was merely an excuse to do what they wanted to do anyways.

So you agree that young healthy pregnant women should risk stillbirths due to the vaccine?

You're fine with the fact that the vaccine doesn't even prevent you from getting COVID?

You're fine with the fact people are dying even after getting the vaccine?

You're fine with the fact that Pfizer warned in their own documents the risks this could have to fertility both in men and women? (check pages 131 and 133)

Spotify shouldn't be given health advice nor SUPPORTING untested vaccines that haven't even been put through Phase III clinical trials. If you have ZERO clue how clinical trial testing works (and P3 is supposed to last for at least two-years), it's not only ILLEGAL but dangerous to enforce medical views/conditions on citizens, especially for a vaccine for a virus with a 99.98% survival rate:

You have ZERO facts from reputable non-Leftist sources for any rebuttal, which is part of the problem with people guilted into harming their own body for a Big Tech agenda.

I'm glad you preemptively told me that I don't have any data, knowledge, or information, having verified my lack of a rebuttal after consulting only True Scotsmen. It saves us the trouble of having a non-conversation.

reply

It's a matter of what's good for the individual vs. society. He's definitely right for the individual. The argument is that if a 21 year old gets it he could spread it to an unhealthy 80 year old, so it's better for society for him to get vaxxed. However that argument is unproven. Until they prove the vaccines are safe and do what they say, I'll pass and leave the vax to the Covid sheeple.

Joe B is still afraid to remove the mask - same goes for the rest of the stoogie politicians. It makes me think that either they didn't get the real vaccine because they know it's experimental shit not worth risking - or the vaccine is shit.

He clarified his statements, admits he's a moron!

On an episode of his podcast out Thursday, Rogan acknowledged the White House's response to his comments and conceded "there's some legitimate science behind this."

"I'm not an anti-vaxx person," he clarified. "I said I believe they're safe and I encourage many people to take them. My parents were vaccinated. I just said that if you're a young, healthy person that you don't need it."
"Their argument was, you need it for other people ... But that's a different argument. That's a different conversation."
Rogan went on to add that his comments were blown out of proportion in part due to clickbait headlines.
He also said he was scheduled to get the Johnson & Johnson vaccine before that vaccine was temporarily paused.
"I'm not a doctor, I'm a fucking moron," he said. "I'm not a respected source of information, even for me ... But I at least try to be honest about what I'm saying."
