I'm really not sure who picks the profile pics on imdb, because there's no way that some of the pics there would ever be picked by the actors themselves.
shareStaff just picks a full frame shot. There's a better one from News radio, but they picked VH1 awards.
sharewhoever does pick them seems to be very immature or spiteful or just incompetent. some of the pictures aren't even of the person, just some random cropped shot from a movie.
