such wasted potential...could've been great

i mean Shaq is a terrible actor but he has the same charm and charisma as arnold schwarzenegger. arnold is not much better of an actor. they also both have huge size an powerful presence. the issue is that arnold's worst movie of his early career, conan the destroyer, would have been BY FAR the best movie shaq EVER did. either shaq was a moron or his agent was a moron. had shaq been in good movies in the 90's and into the 2000's, he probably would've been the next big action star. instead he was playing in absolute garbage like steel, kazaam, and good burger. flop after flop, critical dud after critical dud. it nuked his career before it ever began. what a waste.

Schedule probably didn't line up for other projects since he was in the midst of a HOF basketball career in the 90's and 2000's.

By the time Shaq tried acting, they had already stopped making the kinds of movies that Arnold was popular and known for. The 90s was the cultural downfall of the entertainment industry. Everything peaked in the 80s.

Was Shaq actually offered good films though? I get the impression that studios in the 90s thought he'd be a big hit among younger audiences thanks to his basketball career, and his acting opportunities were limited accordingly. Sorta like how I doubt studios were inclined to cast Hulk Hogan in an R-rated action movie, so he instead ended up in crap like "Santa with Muscles." (I'm not arguing Hogan necessarily deserved better, just saying.)

Imagine trying to find an actor bigger than Shaq to play the Predator.

I’ve read that Shaq was offered Tim Lister’s role in Jackie Brown but his agent made him turn it down and only accept staring roles, because he would never become a big name actor by taking small roles. So obviously it was his agent fucking his career up.
